New AP DSC 2024 syllabus has sparked concern among candidates, especially regarding the syllabus content for School Assistant (SA) exams, which now extends up to the Intermediate level, a significant change from previous years.
AP DSC 2024 Intermediate Level Syllabus
While the DSC candidates were expected to prepare from the syllabus covering classes 3 to 10, the inclusion of Intermediate-level content for the SA exam has raised anxiety among them. Candidates recall similar confusion during the 2018 DSC exam, where the syllabus provided before the exam did not align with the actual test, resulting in many candidates facing difficulties. They fear a repeat of this scenario and are worried about being disadvantaged again.

This issue is not new, as the same strategy was followed during the 2014 DSC as well, which faced similar backlash. Despite the objections raised, the then-TDP government proceeded without addressing them. This time, candidates and education experts urged the government to provide clear guidelines when Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu signed the DSC file in June. They argued that it was inappropriate to set Intermediate-level syllabus for teaching high school students and also raised concerns about the exam structure.
AP DSC 2024 Syllabus Exceeds Teaching Scope
Officials from the School Education Department have stated that the DSC exam syllabus will align with the TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) syllabus, covering classes 3 to 10. However, in a twist, the newly released syllabus indicates that questions will also be asked from the Intermediate level, leaving candidates confused. While primary and upper primary school teachers typically teach students from grades 1 to 8, and high school teachers teach grades 6 to 10, the DSC syllabus in the past used to match these teaching levels.

For Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) posts, the syllabus used to cover classes 3 to 8, and for School Assistant (SA) posts, it covered classes 6 to 10. The question papers were prepared based on this scope. However, the syllabus was unexpectedly expanded by the Chandrababu Naidu government during the 2014 and 2018 DSC exams, leading to frustration among candidates and education experts once again.
Uncertainty Over SA Special Education Posts
The School Education Department has released the syllabus for SGT and TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) special education posts, but not for SA Special Education posts that are required in high schools. This omission has led many to believe that these posts may not be filled this time. In 2018, around 852 SA Special Education posts were identified, and 602 of them were filled in a special DSC held in February. This year, however, candidates holding degrees and B.Ed. qualifications in Special Education are worried about being left out.
According to the National Education Policy 2020, every school must have at least one special education teacher. However, the government's reluctance to announce these posts has left candidates anxious.
Concerns Over Online Exams
Another major issue that candidates are raising concerns about is the plan to conduct the DSC exam online, similar to the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) held in July. Candidates fear that conducting the exam online instead of offline may put them at a disadvantage. The prospect of holding exams over multiple days in two sessions (morning and afternoon) worries them.
Since DSC is a district-level exam meant for teacher recruitment, candidates have requested that the exam be conducted offline and on a district basis. Previously, candidates had approached Education Minister Nara Lokesh regarding this issue, and he had responded positively. However, the current plan seems to favor conducting the exam online, similar to TET, over 10 days in two daily sessions, causing further distress among the candidates.

The upcoming AP DSC 2024 will fill 16,347 teacher vacancies, including:
- Secondary Grade Teachers (SGT): 6,371 posts
- School Assistants (SA): 7,725 posts
- Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT): 1,781 posts
- Postgraduate Teachers (PGT): 286 posts
- Principals: 52 posts
- Physical Education Teachers (PET): 132 posts
