The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) is pioneering a new path in education with the launch of the first-ever M.S. (by research) and PhD programs in Music and Musopathy. This initiative highlights IIT Mandi's commitment to interdisciplinary learning and its dedication to both Indian music and the emerging field of Musopathy, which explores the therapeutic applications of music.

The programs offer a comprehensive curriculum, catering to full-time and part-time students both online and in-person. Regardless of location, qualified individuals can pursue these unique programs.

Science Meets Music for Holistic Well-being

"We aim to develop science and technology that aligns with the Indian knowledge system," said Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, Director of IIT Mandi. "These programs delve into the science of Indian music while exploring its potential for holistic well-being, encompassing mind, body, and consciousness."

The research-focused programs aim to create highly skilled professionals who can contribute meaningfully to the understanding and development of music and its positive impacts on individuals and society, including the wellness field of Musopathy.

Collaboration with Renowned Experts

The programs benefit from the guidance of a distinguished advisory board. Renowned figures in music, dance, and science –  Padma Vibhushan awardee Dr. Sonal Mansingh, percussion maestro Prof. Trichy Sankaran, scientist Dr. Gautam Desiraju, and musician Mr. Chitravina N. Ravikiran – all lend their expertise.  Mr. Ravikiran collaborated with Acharyanet.com, a leading music education platform, to design parts of the curriculum.
