Heavy Rains: Telugu States on High Alert, Schools Closed Tomorrow and Possibly the Day After!

​​​​​​​Sakshi Education: The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh for the next four days. In response, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has issued key directives to officials. During a teleconference with collectors, ministers, and officials, he reviewed the preparedness of various government departments.

He instructed that alert messages be sent to people’s mobile phones regarding the rains. He emphasized the need to focus on the protection of tank and canal embankments and to place necessary warning boards near streams and canals. He urged officials to ensure there is no loss of life or property and to set up control rooms to respond quickly to public grievances. If necessary, schools and colleges will also be given holidays.

Senior officials are continuously reviewing the heavy rains in several districts of the state. From the control room, CS Neerabh Kumar and Special CS Sisodia are monitoring the situation. Police, Panchayati Raj, Irrigation, and R&B department officials have been instructed to remain vigilant.

Heavy Rains:

Officials informed the Chief Minister that heavy rains are expected in Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, YSR, and Anantapur districts. NDRF and SDRF teams have been kept on standby. Depending on the severity of the rains, collectors of various districts may declare holidays for schools tomorrow and the day after.

Due to a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, heavy rains are occurring in several districts of Andhra Pradesh. Rain has been falling since early morning in Chittoor, Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, and Visakhapatnam districts. In some places, there have been interruptions in power supply. Heavy rains in Tirumala are causing difficulties for devotees. Holidays have been declared for educational institutions in Nellore, Prakasam, and Bapatla districts.

In Nellore district, heavy rains are continuing without a break in Indukuripet, Kovur, and Kodavalur mandals. Collector Anand stated that a control room has been set up at the Nellore district collectorate. He advised the public to call 0861-2331261, 7995576699, or 1077 in case of any difficulties. Control rooms have also been set up at division and mandal centers, and revenue and irrigation officials have been instructed to inspect the banks of the Penna River. The district collector said that coastal residents have already been moved to safer places. Fishermen have been warned not to go fishing. There is also a possibility of declaring holidays for government and private educational institutions in the district tomorrow and the day after.

In Prakasam district, continuous heavy rains are falling in Ongole, Maddipadu, Giddalur, and Komarolu. Roads in Ongole have been flooded due to heavy rains since early morning. Rain is falling in Bapatla, Chirala, Vetapalem, Chinaganjam, Karamchedu, Parchur, Martur, Inkollu, Kollur, Vemuru, Addanki, Yaddanapudi, J.Panguluru, Ballikurava, Nizampatnam, and Karthapalem. In Krishna district, rain is falling with strong winds in Machilipatnam, Uyyuru, and Avanigadda. Roads in several areas of Visakhapatnam have been flooded due to rain. Rain is also falling in Annamayya district. As a result, the district collector Sridhar has declared holidays for government and private educational institutions. There is also a possibility of declaring holidays for government and private educational institutions tomorrow as well.

For the next three days in Tirumala: Heavy rains are expected across the state for the next three days. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) held a high-level meeting in this context. Senior officials discussed the heavy rain forecast for the next 36 hours and made several key decisions. As a precautionary measure, VIP break darshans at the Srivari temple on October 16 have been canceled. TTD announced that recommendation letters will not be accepted on October 15 and that break darshans are being canceled for the safety of devotees.

In Telangana: The Meteorological Department has revealed that light to moderate rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are likely in Telangana for the next three days. Today, light to moderate rain is expected in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Medak, Nizamabad, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, and Mulugu districts.

Tomorrow and the day after: On Tuesday and Wednesday, light to moderate rains are expected in Nizamabad, Khammam, Nalgonda, Warangal, Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medak, Mahbubnagar, and Nirmal districts. In this context, the Meteorological Department has issued yellow warnings for these districts. A cyclonic circulation is centered over the west-central Bay of Bengal off the southern Andhra Pradesh coast at an altitude of 5.8 km above mean sea level. Due to its influence, winds are blowing from the east and southeast directions in Telangana. Depending on the severity of the rains, collectors of various districts in Telangana may also declare holidays for schools and colleges.
