Dean Shankar Rao of Shri Chaitanya noted that students scoring 450 marks last year could secure a seat in the convener quota for the General category, whereas this year, students needed to score over 500 marks. Additionally, while last year a score of 600 ranked around 30,000, this year it ranked around 82,000. The number of students achieving perfect scores of 720 also rose from just two last year to 67 this year.

NEET 2024 Rankers:

Guguloth Venkata Nrupesh from Telangana secured the top rank in the ST category in the NEET exam for admissions in medical courses. He scored 720 marks. Laudya Sriram Nayak, the second ranker in the ST category, scored 715 marks. Nationally, Nrupesh ranked 167th in the General category. Anuran Ghosh also emerged as a state-level topper, ranking 77th in the General category.

In total, about 67 individuals, including Ved Sunil Kumar Shinde from Maharashtra, secured top ranks in the All-India category. The highest rank achieved 99.997129 percentile. Telangana's first ranker and National 77th ranker, Anuran Ghosh, secured 99.996614 percentile. ST category topper Nrupesh achieved 99.987314 percentile, while Laudya Sriram Nayak, the second ranker in the same category, secured 99.969357 percentile. An academic expert noted a decline in the number of top rankers from Telangana compared to previous years.

47,371 Eligible Candidates from Telangana

The NEET exam, conducted last month for admissions in medical courses such as MBBS, BDS, BAMS, and BUMS, saw an increase in participation. Last year, 20.38 lakh students took the exam, while this year, 23.33 lakh students attended. Of these, 13.16 lakh students qualified, up from 11.45 lakh last year. In Telangana, 77,849 students took the exam, with 47,371 qualifying, compared to 42,654 qualifiers from 72,842 attendees last year.

State-Level Ranks to be Announced Soon

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the All India ranks and will soon provide the data to the states. States will use this information to create merit lists for MBBS and BDS seats based on the All India rank. State counseling officers will then finalize the state merit lists. Counseling for admissions in the 15% All India quota seats, deemed universities, central universities, ESIC, AFMC, BHU, and AMU will follow.

Candidates can visit www.mcc.nic.in for more information on counseling. Applications for the 15% All India quota seats will be accepted until the seats are filled. Further details and schedules for counseling will be available on the Medical Education Directorate and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare websites. Candidates should apply to their home states for other state quota seats. The respective state counseling authorities will manage counseling for private medical colleges. Additionally, NEET results will be used for BSc nursing admissions and for BVSC and AH courses under the 15% quota in recognized veterinary colleges.
