Additional Engineering Seats: Uncertainty Surrounds EAPCET Counseling Process

The recent increase in engineering seats in several colleges has created a degree of uncertainty regarding who will benefit from these additional seats and how the counseling process will be conducted.

The government will ultimately decide how the counseling process will be carried out. Initially, they had refused to increase seats in Computer Science branches for private colleges that had canceled less-demanded courses. However, following court intervention, interim orders were issued in favor of increasing seats.

Challenges in Conducting Counseling:

• Late-Stage Counseling: Conducting additional counseling at this stage, after three rounds of counseling and spot admissions have already taken place, presents logistical challenges.
• Limited Pool of Eligible Students: Only students who failed to secure any seat in previous rounds would be eligible for the new counseling.
• Disadvantage for Higher-Ranked Students: Many students with higher ranks who initially aimed for Computer Science may have settled for other branches. Limiting the new seats to only those who didn't secure any seat could be unfair to these students.

Potential Consequences of Restarting Counseling:

• Disruption in College Admissions: Restarting counseling could disrupt the admission process for students who have already joined colleges.
• Vacancies in Current Colleges: Students switching from their current courses to Computer Science could create vacancies in their original colleges, leading to another round of counseling.

Government's Decision Await:

The technical education department is preparing to bring this matter to the government's attention for clarity. Both officials and students are eagerly awaiting the government's decision on how to proceed with the counseling process.
