From next year, filling management quota seats in private engineering colleges will be done through an online system, just like the convener quota. This change aims to prevent merit-based students from losing out due to non-transparent practices.

Transparency for Merit-Based Selection

Currently, private colleges fill management quota engineering seats on their own, often accused of selling them to the highest bidder instead of merit-based selection. To ensure transparency and benefit merit students, the government is considering moving the management quota seat allocation online.

The Higher Education Council has been tasked with preparing a report on the possibilities of implementing this system. Officials state that the report is in its final stages and will be submitted to the government soon. The report is expected to include key recommendations aimed at making the admission process more transparent and merit-based.

Overview of the Current Engineering Admission Process

There are around 1.16 lakh engineering seats in the state, with 70% filled under the convener quota, where eligible students receive fee reimbursement from the government. The remaining 30% are divided between the "B" category (15%) and seats reserved for NRI students. However, students admitted under the management quota are not eligible for fee reimbursement.

The seats under the management quota should ideally be given to students based on their JEE or TS EAPCET ranks, or their intermediate exam scores. Complaints have been received by the government that these seats are being sold to students who can pay higher fees, bypassing merit.

TG EAPCET Admissions 2025: Proposed Changes

The government will propose fixed fees for B and C category seats, with B category fees set to be three times higher and C category (NRI) fees five times higher than the convener quota fees.
Additional fees for laboratories and libraries may also be recommended.
The proposal includes adopting an online counseling process, similar to the one used for NEET in MBBS seat allocation, for engineering admissions as well. This would ensure transparency, as students will be allotted seats based on merit, and colleges will not be able to sell them for higher fees.

The goal is to make the entire seat allocation process transparent and to protect merit students from losing opportunities due to high fees charged under the management quota.
