The state government has launched an exercise to increase the number of MBBS seats in government medical colleges.
There is a shortage of MBBS and PG medical seats across the country. It is learned that the government has announced to set up a medical college for the district. Before the advent of Telangana, there were five government medical colleges in the state, but now there are 17. Eight new colleges are coming up this year, eight in 2023–24. In terms of seats .. By the time Telangana was formed in 2014, there were 700 MBBS seats in government colleges and by 2022 it had increased to 2,840. The government aims to increase these to 5,240 by the 2023–24 academic year. Also, PG Medical has decided to increase the number of seats from 967 to 20,500 by 2021. While the number of super specialty seats will be 153 by 2021, it is proposed to increase this to one thousand. Government sources said an action plan has been drawn up to this extent.
