3-Day School Holidays Due to Cyclone Alert in Andhra Pradesh

A depression over the Bay of Bengal has led to continuous heavy rainfall across several districts in Andhra Pradesh, causing widespread flooding. In response, the Andhra Pradesh government has declared holidays for schools in the affected areas.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy to extreme rainfall in 13 districts, including West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR District, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal, Annamayya, Chittoor, and Tirupati.

School closures

Due to these conditions, district authorities have announced school closures. Sri Sathya Sai district has declared holidays from October 15th to 17th, Chittoor district from October 15th to 16th, and Ananthapur district has announced closures on October 17th and 18th.

The depression is expected to intensify into a cyclone and move northward, affecting Tamil Nadu and southern coastal areas in the next 48 hours. Heavy rainfall is likely to continue along the southern coast and in Rayalaseema today and tomorrow.

Fishermen have been advised to stay ashore, as gusty winds of 35-55 km/h are expected along the coast. Authorities remain on high alert, and residents are urged to stay informed through local news and follow safety advisories.

The state government continues to monitor the situation closely, providing updates as necessary, and urging people to remain cautious and prepared for further weather developments.
