Google, the company more known as the world’s most used search engine founded in 1998 by the students of Stanford University Larry Page and Sergey Brin. The Google is a play on the word “googol,” the mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros. The company offers a wide range of services from Gmail e-mail software, and social networking tools, including orkut and, more recently, Google Buzz and applications such as the web browser Google Chrome, the Picasa photo organization and editing software, and the Google Talk instant messaging application. Termed the Internet's most visited website with its numerous international google sites like google.co.in, google.co.uk etc. and several other Google-owned sites such as Youtube, Blogger, and orkut and also leads in the development of the Android mobile phone operating system.

Job roles for Engineers in Google
As an engineer at Google, work involves every area of computer science – including information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression and user interface design – as well as other engineering disciplines. The openings for software engineers involve design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance the next-generation technologies and software solutions which require programming skills on a full range of tasks – from software design through to operational implementation and maintenance. Google prefers PhD for an individual but it also has roles for graduates at every level.

Hiring process
Keeping in view of high quality bar, Google follows exceptionally thorough hiring process to hire strong candidates who meet their quality bar. Once you apply for a job at Google, based on your qualifications and experience, a recruiter will contact you and informs you about the hiring process at Google. Then a phone interview follows and lasts about 30-40 minutes to assess your technical skills and proficiency. On your success in this round you will be called for in person interview in which several engineers across different teams evaluates your core software engineering skills including: coding, algorithm development, data structures, design patterns, analytical thinking skills. Within two weeks from the date of final interview, based on your suitability you may be called to join with the Google team.

Internship opportunities at Google
Google offers internship opportunities throughout the year for students pursuing all kinds of degrees with at least three months of work. The interns will receive ongoing mentorship and training which has great scope of learning and will be given a competitive salary and relocation assistance.

  1. Google India Women in Engineering Award
    The Google India Women in Engineering Award was instituted in 2008 to recognize and reward deserving women students in Computer Science and related majors, and inspire them to become active participants and leaders in creating technology. Women engineering students will be awarded based on their excellence in academia, passion for technology and demonstrated leadership. Winners will be chosen from across bachelor's, master's and PhD programs and will receive a cash prize of INR 1,00,000 each.
    Eligibility Criteria
    Candidates must:

    • Be enrolled as a full time student in a recognized Indian institution.
    • Be in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related majors.
    • Maintain a cumulative CGPA of at least 4.0 on a 5.0 scale, 8.0 on a 10.0 scale (or equivalent), or be in the top 10 percentile of their college in the current program.
    • Be enrolled in Bachelor's/ Integrated MSc/ Dual Degree MTech (3rd year onwards) or Master's or PhD (all years). Date of Notification: In the month of Sep/Oct
  2. Google Global Community Scholarship
    The Global Community Scholarship offered by the Google for funding a group of students outside the U.S. to attend the annual Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing.
