Mining is a basic old and a big industry. The industry is looking for bright talented, meritorious and capable persons to meet the present and future market requirements.
To promote mining industry, a lot of research activity has to be encouraged. To meet the modern requirements of training personnel to meet the mining industry requirements, the department of Mining Engineering has been contemplating efforts to strengthen and modernize with addition of new equipment according to the changing mining industry requirements.
The eligibility criteria: Intermediate or 10+2 / Diploma (preferably in Mining Engineering). The Convener makes the admissions in to B.Tech (Mining) branch through EAMCET /ECET every year.
Higher education options with the branch
After completion of B.Tech Mining branch, one can pursue Post graduate programme -- M.Tech in mining specializations i.e. Mine Ventilation, Rock Excavation Engineering, Mine Planning, Mining Engineering, etc., in reputed national level institutions i.e. ISM, IITs etc.
Course analysis
The course academic subjects covers Mine Planning, Mine Environment, Surface Management, Safety Management, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Mine Ventilation, Mining Machinery, Mine systems and computer applications, Open Pit Mining, Underground Mining Methods, coal, UMM(Metal), Rock Excavation Engineering, Mining Geology, Mine Legislation and safety, Mine surveying, Mine Excavation Engineering, Mine Surface Environmental Engineering.
Job profile
The Mining graduates are initially provided /given opportunity training for a period of 6 to 12 months in mining related areas and after successful completion of training, they may be given an opportunity to serve in the organization on a permanent basis as Junior Mining Engineer at entry level. During the training period they will be given stipend, it varies from company/industry to industry subject to the rules in vogue.
Some job profiles include Lecturers, Mining Engineer, Mine Planner, Mining safety engineers, Coal Preparation Plant Manager, Mine Safety and Health Specialist, Process Plant Maintenance Foreman, Extraction Maintenance Superintendent etc.
The career graph of a mining engineer starts from Management trainee, Under Manager--Mining Engineer, Asst. Manager, Dy. Manager, Additional Manager, Asst. General Manager, Dy. General Manager, Chief General Manager, Director to Vice President.
Salary for the successful candidates
After successful completion of the training in the mining branch, the candidates will be offered Rs.1.50 to 3.00 lakhs by the companies. It is subject to company rules in vogue and varies from company to company.
Recently the students of mining of our college have been selected in campus recruitment. They were offered Rs.22, 000/- initial payment during training period besides other fringe benefits and perquisites as per the company rules and regulations.
