Centre starts ground truthing of elephant corridors

• Centre has initiated the process for ground truthing of elephant corridors in the country in coordination with the states. It is aimed at creating a better connectivity between the different landscapes and elephant herds for maintaining genetic diversity. 
• This was stated by Minister of State for Environment Ashwini Choubey in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. He informed that 1581 human casualties have occurred due to elephant attacks during the last three years. 
• The Minister said the number of elephant casualties due to train accidents during the last three years is 41 while the elephant casualties due to electrocution during the period is 198.
