  • The International Day of Charity, celebrated every year on September 5th, highlights the significant impact of philanthropic efforts in tackling some of the world’s most urgent challenges.

Chief Science Advisers’ Roundtable

  • The 2024 Chief Science Advisers’ Roundtable (CSAR) is set to take place on September 6, 2024, at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris. This event is a joint initiative between the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India and UNESCO’s Natural Sciences Sector. Initially launched during India’s G20 Presidency in 2023, CSAR aims to strengthen global science advisory mechanisms. The event will be co-chaired by Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, India’s Principal Scientific Adviser, and Dr. Lidia Brito, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences.

Bilateral

  • India and Singapore have entered into several agreements to boost cooperation in semiconductors, healthcare, and digital economies, thereby elevating their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. During his visit to Singapore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the significance of this collaboration for regional peace, stability, and prosperity, and praised Singapore as an “inspiration” for India’s development.

Vishanu Yuddh Abhyas

  • As part of the National One Health Mission (NOHM), a detailed mock drill called “Vishanu Yuddh Abhyas” (Virus War Exercise) took place in Ajmer district, Rajasthan, from August 27 to August 31, 2024. This exercise was designed to evaluate the pandemic readiness of the National Joint Outbreak Response Team (NJORT), which comprises specialists from the human health, animal husbandry, and wildlife sectors.

National Award for e-Governance 2024 

  • The Ministry of Women and Child Development has received the National Award for e-Governance 2024 (Gold) for its innovative digital initiative, Poshan Tracker. This tool, which is a key component of Mission Poshan 2.0, facilitates real-time monitoring of children’s growth, particularly focusing on those aged 0-6 years.

Vedic-3D museum at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University

  • The Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled plans to build a Vedic-3D museum at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University in Varanasi. This cutting-edge museum will spotlight Indian astrology, astronomy, and Vedic literature. During his visit to the university, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the museum’s significance in illustrating the evolution of Vedic literature, including the 16 Sanskars, 64 arts, and 18 Vidya Sthans, along with the contributions of Indian sages.

Vishvasya-Blockchain Technology Stack

  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has introduced the Vishvasya-Blockchain Technology Stack to offer Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) with a geographically distributed infrastructure. This initiative is designed to support permissioned blockchain applications and enhance transparent, secure, and trusted digital service delivery across India.

Economy
Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan have recorded the highest growth

  • According to recent data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan have recorded the highest growth in real Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) for FY24 among the ten largest states by GSDP.

The services sector continues to be the largest contributor to GVA among major states. Key sectors include:

  • Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing: 18.42%
  • Manufacturing: 14.70%
  • Trade, Hotels, Transport, Communication, and Broadcasting: 17.98%
  • Financial, Real Estate, and Professional Services: 21.42%

23rd Law Commission of India

  • President Droupadi Murmu has approved the formation of the 23rd Law Commission of India for a three-year term, effective from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2027. This commission will consist of a full-time chairperson, four members, and additional ex-officio and part-time members.

Seven Schemes to Boost Farmers’ Incomes and Improve Agriculture

  • In a major effort to improve farmers’ livelihoods and boost their incomes, the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved seven comprehensive schemes. These initiatives, with a total budget of Rs 14,235.30 Crore, are designed to transform various facets of agriculture in India.

AgriSURE Scheme

  • Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has launched the AgriSURE Scheme in New Delhi. The AgriSURE Fund, officially known as the Agri Fund for Start-ups & Rural Enterprises, is a ₹750 crore blended capital fund designed to promote innovation and growth in the agricultural and rural start-up ecosystem. Supported by contributions from the Government of India, NABARD, and private investors, this initiative aims to transform the agricultural sector by backing high-risk, technology-driven ventures.

Paralympics 2024

  • Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu secured silver and bronze medals respectively in the men’s high jump T63 event.
  • Deepthi Jeevanji, the 20-year-old world champion sprinter from India, has secured a bronze medal in the women’s 400m T20 event
  • Sumit Antil not only claimed the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw F64 class but also became the first Indian male para-athlete to successfully defend his Paralympic title.
  • Dharambir, the 35-year-old athlete from Sonepat claimed the gold medal with a throw of 34.92 meters, and Pranav Soorma secured the silver medal in F51 club throw event.
  • In Second World Deaf Shooting Championship in Hannover, Germany, teenage shooter Anuya Prasad from Jaipur secured the gold medal in the women’s air pistol event.
