President Murmu Awarded Timor Leste’s Highest Civil Honor.

  • President Droupadi Murmu was accorded the Grand Collar of Order of Timor Leste, the highest civil award by President José Ramos Horta at the Presidential Palace in Dili. President Murmu held meetings with President Horta and Prime Minister Gusmão on bilateral cooperation.
  • President Horta hailed India’s democratic ethos and called for assistance in IT digital infrastructure, medical and pharmaceutical sectors and Capacity building.
  • President Murmu also held a bilateral discussion with Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão where MoUs were exchanged on cooperation between Prasar Bharati and Radio Televisaun Timor Leste (RTTL), visa waiver for official and diplomatic passport holders and cooperation on cultural exchange program.
  • President Droupadi Murmu received a 21-gun salute and inspected the guard of honour. She also paid floral tributes to the portrait of Former President of India Late Shri VV Giri on his birth anniversary at Timor Plaza Hotel.

Venezuelan President Maduro orders 10-day ban on X amid Election dispute.

  • Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has signed a resolution to block access to the social media platform X in the country for 10 days.
  • The announcement comes after President Maduro and platform’s owner, Elon Musk exchanged accusations over Venezuela’s disputed presidential election held on 28th of last month. Venezuelan President accused the Mr Musk, of using the social network to promote hatred after the country’s disputed Presidential election. Mr. Maduro also accused the social network of being used by his opponents to create political unrest.
  • Electoral authorities declared Maduro the winner of a presidential election but have yet to produce voting tallies.

HoR Committee unanimously approves Transitional Justice Amendment Bill.

  • In Nepal, the  Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee of the House of Representatives has unanimously approved the report on the Transitional Justice Amendment Bill.
  •  The bill addresses human rights violations (including coercion, sexual violence, deliberate killings, disappearances and torture), compensation for those affected by the armed conflict and provisions for reduced punishment for offenders.
  • The committee met at Singha Durbar yesterday and concluded with the unanimous approval of the report, which will be presented at the next session of the House of Representatives.

Indian Wrestler Aman Sehrawat Secures Bronze at Paris 2024 Olympics

  • Champ de Mars arena, India’s Aman Sehrawat clinched a bronze medal in the men’s 57kg wrestling category at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The young grappler demonstrated exceptional skill and determination as he defeated Puerto Rico’s Darian Toi Cruz with a decisive score of 13-5
  • This achievement ensures that India has secured a medal in wrestling at every edition of the Olympic Games since 2008.
  • At the Tokyo Olympics, Ravi Kumar Dahiya had won a silver medal in the same 57kg weight class.
