UPSC Civils Toppers: Shubham Kumar and Jagruti Awasthi

UPSC released the civils mains 2020 results. 761 candidates have been selected for civil services.

Shubham Kumar (24) topped the Civil Services 2020. Shubham Kumar, who studied B.Tech in Civil Engineering at Bombay IIT, secured the first rank in all India and Jagruti Awasthi (24) from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh secured the second rank. Ankita Jain from Delhi finished third in All India. There were 13 men and 12 women in the top-25 ranks. UPSC on Friday released the final results of the Civil Services – 2020 exams. A total of 761 candidates, including 545 men and 216 women, have been selected for recruitment to the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Services, Indian Police Services and Central Services (Group A, Group B).

Shubham Kumar hails from Katihar, Bihar and studied Civil Engineering at Bombay IIT. He first wrote the UPSC exam in 2018. In 2019, he was ranked 290th and selected for the Indian Defense Service. He is currently training at the National Academy of Defense Financial Management (NADFM) in Pune. He passed 10th class in Vidya Vihar Residential School, Bihar and 12th class in Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Bokaro with 96% marks. Shubham said he had an idea to join the Civil Services when he went to America for research. His optional subject is Anthropology. Shubham's father is a bank manager and his sister Baba is a scientist at the Atomic Research Center.

Will work for the development of villages
Jagruti Awasthi, the second-ranked IAS officer, said she was selected for the IAS to work for the advancement of women and children as well as the progress of the villages. Schooling with Maharshi Vidyamandir, Maulana Azad studied Electrical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology (Bhopal). She quit her job at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (‌Bhopal) to prepare for UPSC Civil services. Her optional‌ subject was Sociology. Awasthi's father is a professor and her mother is a housewife.

Ankita Jain, a third-ranked Delhi resident, works at Audit and Accounts Services in Mumbai. Ankita was married to Abhinav Tyagi, an IPS (Maharashtra cadre) from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, two months ago.
