NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore spent eight days at the International Space Station (ISS) but remained stranded for nine months due to technical issues with Boeing’s Starliner. Originally set to return in 2023, they are now expected back after March 19, 2025.

How Much Do NASA Astronauts Earn in Space?
As federal employees, NASA astronauts do not receive overtime pay—their compensation remains the same as if they were working on Earth.

Both Williams and Wilmore fall under the GS-15 pay grade, earning between 125,133and162,672 per year (₹1.08 crore – ₹1.41 crore). For their additional nine months in space, they are estimated to have earned between 93,850and122,004 (₹81 lakh – ₹1.05 crore).

Additionally, NASA provides a 4dailyincidentalallowance,totaling1,148 (₹1 lakh) for their 287-day extended stay. In total, their earnings range from 94,998to123,152 (₹82 lakh – ₹1.06 crore).

Compensation vs. Challenges
Despite enduring physical and mental stress, their pay remains unchanged, though NASA provides comprehensive healthcare. Now, with the success of SpaceX Dragon, both astronauts are preparing for their return to Earth.
