There are allegations that injustice has been done to the poor and weaker sections in the filling of these constable jobs. The reason for this seems to be that the cut-off marks of EWS candidates are much lower than the cut-off marks of BC, SC and ST female candidates.
EWS Reservations:
It is known that the Police Recruitment Board released the notification last year for 16,604 constable posts. Lakhs of youth competed for these jobs. By the time the notification was released, there were cases in the courts on EWS reservation. With this, the board said that EWS reservations will not apply to this notification. There was no EWS reservation in the notification till preliminary exam was conducted. But, before the final exam, the board made amendments in the notification providing reservations.
In every district the cut off marks of BC, SC and ST are higher than the cutoff of EWS candidates. The cutoff for BC, SC, ST female candidates is also lower than the cutoff for EWS candidates. In each district and each commissionerate the lowest cutoff is for EWS candidates. Leaders of BC, SC and ST communities say that their cutoff is low because there are fewer candidates for EWS, and more posts allotted to them.
Judging by the cutoff marks, the candidates from weaker sections are expressing their dissatisfaction that they have been treated unfairly due to EWS reservation. Criticism is being made on EWS reservation on social media platform. It is alleged that ten percent reservation has been given to OCs where not even two percent are poor.
