Various career options for Engineers in the Indian Army:

Technical Graduate Course:

Engineering students in the final year or those who have completed BE/B.Tech. in notified streams can join the Indian Military Academy (IMA) through Technical Graduate Course. The duration of training is 1 year. The advertisement by Service Selection Board (SSB) for recruitment is published twice a year in leading newspapers and Employment News in the month of May/June and November /December.

Eligible criteria -

Qualification: BE / B.Tech. final appearing and degree holders in notified streams of Engineers

Age: 20 to 27 years

Short Service Commission Technical for both Men and Women

Engineering graduates, both men and women can join the Army for 10 years service - which is extendable up to 14 years - through the Short Service Commission Technical course for both Men and Women. The selection takes place through direct SSB interview and medical examination. The SSB interviews have a five days testing schedule and conducted at Allahabad, Bhopal and Bangalore for the Indian Army. The selected candidates undergo training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA) at Chennai for 49 weeks.

University Entry Scheme:
Engineers who wish to join Army in pre-final/final year of engineering have an opportunity to opt for University Entry Scheme. The selection process comprises of campus interview and SSB interview. The selected candidates are eligible for induction into technical branches/services of the army as commissioned officers under the University Entry Scheme.
