Mrs. Suchitra K. Ella
Co Founder & Jt. MD,
Bharat Biotech
We are working on H1N1 vaccine for Swine flu and also on Rota virus vaccine. We focus on vaccines and recombinant medicines which are produced 100% naturally. Bharat Biotech always works hard to develop innovative products.
Does your company have any association with the colleges?
Yes, We have interactive programmes with JNTU, HCU and several other research institutes. We do go on campus recruitments and train the students.
What is your view on B.Tech Biotechnology?
Simply introducing BTech Bio technology course will not help. This course needs sophisticated science laboratories. Students also must work hard and spend time on practicals to improve their practical knowledge. There should be industry interactive programmes in curriculum to impart practical knowledge to the students.
What are the opportunities for BTech Biotech students?
Biotechnology is not just a subject. It's a wide area where different concepts have to be learnt. It will be more beneficial for the students to opt for MTech and research. There are good research institutes abroad.
Are you recruiting BTech students in your company?
We generally recruit life sciences graduates. We also recruit BTech Biotech students and train them. BTech Instrumentation students also have opportunities in Biotech industries. Chemical Engineering students can find good opportunities in pharma companies.
Which sectors are better for engineering students?
For the last few years IT sector has been providing lot of opportunities. But I feel IT sector in India is not concentrating on product development. So, if the student has a vast knowledge in core subjects then IT would be an additional advantage. The core sectors like manufacturing, infrastructure, electrical etc, are better job providers.
How will be the recruitment process in your company?
Generally our HR team will go through the resumes sent by the candidates and call them for the interview if their skills match with the requirement. The fresher candidates will be trained for at least 2-3 years. The candidates having Ph.D. will be most preferred if their instructors recommend them.
How a resume should look like?
Nowadays most of the candidates are following copy and paste method whi-le preparing their resumes. But that is not the correct approach. Candidates must send different resumes to diff-erent companies based on their requirement. One more thing is single resume should not be sent to all the companies within a single mail. This gives a negative impression on the candidate. Resume should be sent to the HR directly and not to the chairm-an or Director of the company.
What qualities do you look in a fresher?
We see the candidate's attitude, not aptitude. Marks alone will not help him to get a job. Education is like a cycle. It should be a continuous proc- ess. So the candidate must be a good learner and also good team player.
What kind of software programmes / tools are being used in Biotech companies?
We have inbuilt clinical trial programmes. We recruit students who have knowledge of SAS. Some companies need candidates who are strong in programming languages like Bio Perl. Some Pharma companies have installed SAP. They recruit SAP professionals. But they also look for knowledge in Pharma and science subjects.
What are your suggestions to the students?
One should respect teachers and gain the knowledge from them. He should be a continuous learner and understand the concepts. For a student, sharing information is very important. If you have the passion you can achieve whatever you want. Finally don't bother about problems, because every problem is an opportunity.
