Embrace new skills and fly high in the IT field: R. Chandra Sekhar, NASSCOM President

The fear of Lay-offs, the lack of skills in the job aspirants and fast changing technologies is the present scenario of the IT sector. R. Chandra Sekhar, NASSCOM (National Associations of Software and Services Companies) explains how job seekers should embrace the skills and have a good career in the IT field.
As technology is fast changing and new trends are surfacing, a job in the IT sector is always challenging and even those with lots of experience in this field have to continuously upgrade their skills. When Cloud Computing was introduced to the sector, the technology was with a selective few, but now every job seeker has upgraded his skills on Cloud technology.

Problem of Automation & Robotics
Comparing to cloud computing, data analytics technologies, current problem of automation and robotics is somewhat different. Unlike human resources, here, the competition is between skilled machines. By updating and up-grading new skills one can get rid of the fear of job threat. Job-seekers should also strive in this angle. Those who are not striving are the only sufferers. It is not proper to feel that there won’t be any future for them in the IT field.

2 lakh Jobs in Automation and Robotics
The survey reports of FICCI and other staffing institutes find that there will be around 2 lakh jobs in Automation, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI). It’s the time for graduates in IT field to avail the opportunity.

NASSCOM Training Centers
NASSCOM is always with the youth and job-seekers regarding skills. We have already arranged sector skill councils in this direction. In the same way, we had set-up artificial intelligence training center in Bangalore to train the youth in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and 3D technologies according to the situation. We are trying to set-up three more centers.

Skills should be a part of academics
As the requirement for new skills continuously change, measures are to be taken to make them part of academics. It is better to change the curriculum once in three years and industry exposure is well integrated with the syllabus.

Learning-a part of life
Learning continuously and improving on skills is the only success mantra in any field for a job opportunity. One has to quit the idea of continuing with the age-old system and move ahead to embrace the latest technologies.
