This announcement follows the Karnataka government’s recent decision to approve a 100% salary hike for the Chief Minister, Ministers, and MLAs, which sparked widespread debate in the assembly.

The BJP, led by opposition leader R. Ashoka, protested against the government for granting 4% reservation to Muslims in public contracts, raising concerns over the growing expenses for elected representatives.

Karnataka Government’s Decision

The salary hike was implemented through two amendment bills:

  • Karnataka Ministers' Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2025
  • Karnataka Legislature Members' Salaries, Pensions, and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2025

Defending the move, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara cited rising expenses as a major reason. He stated,
"MLAs, like common people, are struggling with rising expenses. The decision was made after receiving multiple recommendations from MLAs. The Chief Minister has ensured that the increased salaries will be managed effectively."
