In this election, BJP candidate Navya Haridas and CPI candidate Sathyan Mokeri are the primary contenders.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi won the Wayanad seat with an impressive 4.3 lakh vote majority against CPI candidate P.P. Suneer. Later, in another election, he defeated CPI leader Anny Raja with a 3.6 lakh vote margin. However, after also securing a victory in Raebareli, Rahul relinquished the Wayanad seat, leading to the necessity of a by-election. Priyanka Gandhi stepped in to contest the seat, and voting took place on November 13, alongside the first phase of Jharkhand elections.
