In a letter, the UPSC Secretary stated that the President had accepted the resignation of Dr. Manoj Soni, who stepped down for personal reasons. The President, Droupadi Murmu, also approved Preeti Sudan's appointment as the Chairman of the Commission.
Sudan will take charge on August 1 and will serve until further orders or until April 29, 2025, whichever comes first, according to the letter. Over her 35-year career, Sudan has made significant contributions to national-level programs and served as Secretary to various departments.
Preeti Sudan has actively contributed to national programs, including the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, and Ayushman Bharat missions. She also played a key role in legislation such as the National Medical Commission, the Allied Health Professionals Commission, and the ban on e-cigarettes.
