Supreme Court Establishes National Task Force for Student Mental Health Concerns
- The Supreme Court has set up a National Task Force (NTF) to address student mental health concerns. The court highlighted the need for a comprehensive and effective framework to tackle factors contributing to such incidents.
- The decision follows the tragic deaths of two IIT Delhi students in 2023, prompting a call for action against academic stress, caste-based discrimination, and other institutional issues. The NTF, chaired by former Supreme Court judge Justice S. Ravindra Bhat, will investigate causes, analyze existing regulations, and propose solutions to strengthen mental health protections in educational institutions.
- The Supreme Court has constituted a National Task Force (NTF) to examine student mental health issues and propose remedial measures.
Indian Armed Forces conduct tri-services Exercise Prachand Prahar
- The Indian Armed Forces conducted a tri-service integrated multi-domain exercise, Prachand Prahar, in the high-altitude terrain of the Himalayas along the Northern Borders in Arunachal Pradesh. The three-day exercise, held from March 25 to 27, focused on coordinated operations involving the Army, Air Force, and Navy.
- The exercise began with the deployment of advanced surveillance assets from all three services, including long-range surveillance aircraft of the Indian Air Force, the maritime domain awareness aircraft of the Indian Navy, helicopters, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Space-based resources and elite Indian Army Special Forces were also mobilized to establish seamless domain awareness and detect simulated targets.
- Once identified, these targets were swiftly neutralized using synchronized joint firepower. Fighter aircraft, long-range rocket systems, medium artillery, armed helicopters, swarm drones, loitering munitions, and kamikaze drones operated in an electronically contested environment to ensure precision strikes.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah Sworn in as Namibia’s First Female President
- Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah made history on March 21, 2025, by becoming Namibia’s first female president. Her inauguration coincided with Namibia’s 35th Independence Day. A veteran of the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO), she won the November 2024 elections with 58% of the vote.
- The outgoing president, Nangolo Mbumba, handed over power during a ceremony attended by several African leaders. Nandi-Ndaitwah acknowledged that while Namibia has progressed since its independence in 1990, many challenges remain. Her administration will focus on tackling unemployment, especially among the youth, with a goal of creating 500,000 jobs over the next five years through investments in agriculture, fishing, and the creativesectors.

Indonesia to Join New Development Bank
- Indonesia has announced its decision to join the New Development Bank (NDB), a multilateral financial institution established by the BRICS nations. President Prabowo Subianto made this declaration during a meeting with NDB President and former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff. This move is expected to boost Indonesia’s economic transformation by facilitating financial collaborations and investment opportunities in key sectors.
- The New Development Bank was established by BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) to finance sustainable development and infrastructure projects in emerging economies. Over time, additional countries such as Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE have joined the bank.

DRDO and Indian Navy successfully test indigenous VLSRSAM
- In a major boost to India’s defence capabilities, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy successfully flight-tested the indigenously-developed Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM) on Wednesday at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, Odisha.
- The missile, launched from a land-based vertical launcher, effectively destroyed a high-speed aerial target at close range and low altitude, demonstrating its agility, precision, and reliability, and validating its Near-Boundary-Low Altitude capability, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
- The test was conducted with all weapon system elements in full combat configuration, including the indigenous Radio Frequency seeker, Multi-Function Radar, and Weapon Control System, all of which performed as expected. The performance was confirmed through flight data captured by range instruments developed by ITR Chandipur.
