Coal production in country increases by 16.39 % to 607.97 MT during April to December 2022

Coal production in country increases
  • Coal production in the country has increased by 16.39 percent to 607.97 metric tonne during the period of April to December last year as compared to 522.34 metric tonne produced during the same period of fiscal year 2022. 
  • Coal India Limited reported coal production of 479.05 metric tonne up to December of fiscal year 2023 as compared to 413.63 metric tonne during the same period of fiscal year 2022, representing an increase of 15.82 percent.
  • Ministry of Coal has paved the way for releasing additional coal in the market by greater utilization of mining capacities of captive coal blocks which has led to increase in production of coal by captive and other companies by 31.38 percent to 81.70 metric tonne during the perio of April to December last year as compared to 62.19 metric tonne produced during the corresponding period of fiscal year 2022.
  • The Ministry is taking steps to augment rail connectivity infrastructure for all major mines under PM Gati Shakti to ensure faster evacuation. 
  • The total coal dispatch have been to the tune of 637.51 metric tonne during the period of April to December last year as compared to 594.22 metric tonne during same period of fiscal year 2022 representing a growth of 7.28 percent which shows steady and efficient amount of coal dispatch to various sectors across the nation.
