Oman and Qatar criticize aggression by Israeli occupation forces on Gaza & incursion into West Bank's Nablus

  • The Foreign Ministry of the Sultanate of Oman and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar have both issued strong condemnations of the recent aggression by Israeli occupation forces on Gaza and their incursion into Nablus in the West Bank.
  • Israeli forces bombed a residential apartment in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of three Palestinians and the injury of seven others. The death toll has risen for three consecutive days, with 24 fatalities and 64 injuries, mostly among women and children who have sustained severe injuries.
  • The Sultanate of Oman has called this aggression a violation of international law, Security Council resolutions, and international legitimacy. The Foreign Ministry has appealed to the international community to take immediate and effective measures to deter Israel from such actions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar has also strongly condemned the Israeli aggression against Gaza, describing it as a new episode in the chain of horrific occupation crimes against the Palestinian people. The Ministry warns of the fading opportunities for peace and the expansion of the cycle of violence due to the provocative Israeli escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
  • Qatar stresses the need for the international community to urgently provide the necessary protection for the Palestinian people and oblige Israel to stop its flagrant violations of international law and respect the decisions of international legitimacy. The Ministry reiterates the firm position of the State of Qatar regarding the justice of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people, including the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

ECONOMY
Carbon Credit Trading Scheme

  • The Indian government is actively working towards decarbonising its economy and achieving ambitious climate goals. To facilitate this transition and promote sustainable practices, the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change are collaborating to develop the Indian Carbon Market (ICM). This market aims to play a crucial role in reducing emissions and driving the adoption of clean technologies.
  • The primary objective of developing the Indian Carbon Market is to support the decarbonisation of the Indian economy. By pricing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the trading of Carbon Credit Certificates, the ICM aims to incentivize industries and entities to adopt low-carbon pathways. This market-based approach encourages the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable practices, promoting a greener and more climate-resilient economy.
  • India has committed to reducing the Emissions Intensity of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 45 percent by 2030, compared to 2005 levels, as part of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). The Indian Carbon Market will play a pivotal role in achieving this goal. By creating a competitive market for carbon credits, the ICM incentivizes entities to reduce their emissions intensity, contributing significantly to India’s climate targets.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
ISRO Tests Semi-Cryogenic Engine

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has recently embarked on a series of tests to develop and evaluate semi-cryogenic engines for future launch vehicles. The first integrated test marks a significant milestone in India’s space exploration endeavors.
  • The inaugural integrated test of the semi-cryogenic engine took place at the ISRO Propulsion Complex (IPRC) in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu. This state-of-the-art facility serves as the ideal testing ground for assessing the performance and capabilities of these advanced engines. The primary objective of these tests is to develop and validate semi-cryogenic engines that will power future launch vehicles, furthering India’s space exploration ambitions.
  • The newly commissioned testing facility at IPRC boasts a remarkable thrust capability of up to 2600 kN. This cutting-edge infrastructure will not only support ongoing semi-cryogenic engine testing but also facilitate the testing and qualification of fully integrated engines and stages.
  • The semi-cryogenic engine being tested utilizes a propellant combination of Liquid Oxygen (LOX) and Kerosene. This combination offers an efficient and powerful fuel source for the engine, ensuring optimal performance during launch missions. In the testing process, an intermediate configuration called the Power Head Test Article (PHTA) is employed. This configuration includes all engine systems except the thrust chamber, providing a comprehensive evaluation of the propellant feed system and control components.

ENVIRONMENT
Pliosaur Discovered in England

  • Fossil remains of a giant pilosaur was discovered in England recently. Their discovery is significant discovery due to the enormous size estimation.
  • Pliosaurs, including their short-necked counterparts, were mainly found in the prehistoric seas of Europe. These ancient marine reptiles were well-adapted for life in the water and were built for speed compared to their long-necked cousins, the plesiosaurs. They ruled the seas between 220 and 70 million years ago, leaving a significant mark on Earth’s history.
  • Although pliosaurs are often associated with dinosaurs, they are not classified as dinosaurs themselves. Instead, they are distant cousins of modern turtles. These remarkable reptiles had several distinctive features that set them apart from other marine creatures of their time.
