SCI Rejects Pleas Seeking 100% Cross-Verification Of EVMs Data With VVPAT Records

  • The Supreme Court of India rejected the pleas seeking 100 percent cross-verification of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) data with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) records.
  • The verdict was delivered by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta. Though the cases were reserved for orders on April 18, they were listed again on April 24 as the Bench wanted some technical clarifications from the Election Commission. Taking into consideration the answers given by Election Commission, the orders were pronounced today.
  • The Apex Court, however, passed two directions for the Election Commission. The court said that after symbols are loaded into an EVM, the Symbol Loading Unit (SLU)should be sealed and secured in containers.
  • The candidates and their representatives shall sign the seal. The sealed containers shall be kept in the store rooms along with the EVMs at least for 45 days post the declaration of results. They should be opened and sealed like EVMs.

Indian Historical Records Commission Adopts New Logo And Motto

  • Indian Historical Records Commission (IHRC) adopted a new logo and motto on Thursday. The design for logo and motto submitted by Shaurya Pratap Singh from Delhi was selected by the IHRC. The commission received a total 436 designs for logo and motto through an online competition that was launched in 2023 on MyGov portal.
  • The logo signifies the theme and uniqueness of IHRC. The pages in the shape of lotus petals represent IHRC as the resilient nodal institution for maintaining historical records. The Sarnath pillar in the middle represents India’s glorious past. Its brown colour theme reinforces the organization’s mission of preserving, studying and honouring India’s historical records.
  • The motto holds great significance for the IHRC, it translates as where history is preserved for the future. The motto reflects the Commission’s commitment to ensuring the safeguarding of historical documents and making these accessible for the benefit of present and future generations.

India-South Korea Consultations On Disarmament And Non-Proliferation Held In Seoul

  • India-South Korea Consultations on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation were held in Seoul today. External Affairs Ministry said the two sides discussed developments in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation rating to nuclear, chemical and biological domains. They also discussed regional non-proliferation issues, outer space security-related matters, conventional weapons including AI in the military domain and multilateral export control regimes.
  • The Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary (Disarmament and International Security Affairs), Ministry of External Affairs, MuanpuiiSaiawi. The South Korean delegation was led by Director General for Non-Proliferation and Nuclear Affairs in Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Youn Jong Kwon.

NABARD-RBI Innovation Hub Partnership Accelerates Digital Agri Lending

  • In a strategic collaboration, NABARD has joined forces with the RBI Innovation Hub to revolutionize agricultural lending through digitalization. The partnership aims to streamline loan processing and enhance accessibility for farmers across India.
  • NABARD will integrate its e-KCC loan origination system portal with the RBI Innovation Hub’s Public Tech Platform for Frictionless Credit (PTPFC), facilitating seamless credit processing. This integration promises faster loan approvals and improved efficiency for cooperative banks and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs).
  • The digitization of agricultural lending not only ensures prompt credit delivery to farmers but also amplifies bank efficiency, aligning with NABARD’s mission of fostering rural prosperity. Chairman Shaji K V highlights the transformative potential of this partnership in advancing financial inclusion in rural areas.
  • Initially piloting in select RRBs and cooperative banks, including Karnataka Gramin Bank and Maharashtra Gramin Bank, the initiative targets scaling the digital lending platform to cover approximately 5 crore KCC loans nationwide. This scaling will significantly reduce operational overheads for lenders while expanding access to credit, fostering a more inclusive rural financial ecosystem.

India’s First Multi-Purpose Green Hydrogen Pilot Project Inaugurated in Himachal Pradesh

  • India takes a significant step in renewable energy with the inauguration of its first multi-purpose green hydrogen pilot project at the 1,500 MW NathpaJhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS) in Himachal Pradesh’s Jhakri. Spearheaded by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN), the project aims to produce green hydrogen through renewable energy sources.
  • The project features a 20Nm3/hr electrolyzer and 25kW fuel cell capacity-based green hydrogen pilot system. It is the nation’s first multi-purpose green hydrogen generation plant, serving both electricity generation and the high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) coating facility of NJHPS.
  • Aligned with the National Green Hydrogen Mission of the Government of India, SJVN’s initiative accelerates the development of green hydrogen production infrastructure in the power sector.
