Labour Minister Bhupender Yadav releases report on 2nd round of Quarterly Employment Survey

  • Labour and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav released the report of second quarter of Quarterly Employment Survey. It is a part of All-India Quarterly Establishment based Employment Survey.
  • Employment is showing an increasing trend across various sectors and total employment in nine selected sectors stands at three crore 10 lakh. He said, employment figures are two lakh higher than the estimated employment of the first round of quarterly employment survey. The Minister emphasized that last-mile delivery is the prime objective of the Government. He said, the Ministry has entrusted nationwide surveys to the Labour Bureau for evidence-based policy making in order to achieve the objective.
  • The report highlights that the manufacturing sector engages 39 per cent, education 22 per cent and Health, 10 percent of the estimated workers. The overall percentage of female workers stood at 32.1 per cent which is nearly three per cent higher than the percentage reported during the first round of the survey.
  • The report further highlights that regular workers constitute 87 per cent of the estimated workforce in the nine selected sectors, with only 2 per cent being casual workers. However, in the construction sector, 20 per cent of the workers were contractual and 6.4 per cent were casual workers. The nine selected sectors are Manufacturing, Construction, Trade, Transport, Education, Health, Accommodation & Restaurant, IT & BPO and Financial Services.


26th December will be marked as Veer Baal Diwas: PM Modi

  • Prime Minister NarendraModi has announced that 26th December will be marked as Veer Baal Diwas. Mr.Modi said it will be a fitting tribute to the courage of the Sahibzades, the sons of Guru Gobind Singh and their quest for justice.
  • Announcing this on the ParkashPurab of Guru Gobind Singh, Mr Modi said, Veer Baal Diwas will be on the same day SahibzadaZorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh attained martyrdom after being sealed alive in a wall. He said, these two greats preferred death instead of deviating from the noble principles of Dharma.
  • Prime Minister said, the bravery and ideals of Mata Gujri, Guru Gobind Singh and the four Sahibzades give strength to millions of people. They never bowed to injustice. Mr Modi said, they envisioned a world that is inclusive and harmonious. Prime Minister said, it is the need of the hour for more people to know about them.

Myanmar court sentences Aung San SuuKyi to 4 more years in prison

  • Former State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung San SuuKyi was sentenced to four more years in prison. She was handed over the punishment in a case related to possession of unlicensed Walkie-talkie, reports Reuters.
  • The court handed over a sentence of 2 years for breaching the export import law for possessing the handheld walkie-talkie and one year for having a set of signal jammers. The two sentences will run concurrently.
  • Earlier, she had received a four year jail sentence for inciting people against the military government and breaching the coronavirus rules. The sentence was later reduced by two years.
  • The court proceedings against Aung San SuuKyi are being conducted without media access. Lawyers of SuuKyi are barred from communicating to the media and public. However, the military government maintains that she is being tried with due legal process by an independent court led by a judge appointed during her term as head of the government.
  • Human Rights groups have called the court proceedings a ‘circus’ meant to keep SuuKyi in prison indefinitely.
  • Aung San SuuKyi has been slapped with  close to a dozen cases since the army seized power last February, If found guilty of all the charges, she could be sentenced to more than 100 years in prison, reports AP.


Kazakhstan unrest: Ex-intelligence chief KarimMassimov arrested for treason

  • Kazakhstan's former intelligence chief KarimMassimov has been arrested on suspicion of treason following nationwide anti-government protests.
  •  Mr. Massimov is an ally of former President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
  • The detention of Karim Massimov was announced by the National Security Committee, a body he headed until his removal this week. Kazakh authorities gave no other details about why Mr. Massimov was arrested.

RBI’s Fin-Tech Department

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) set up an internal “FinTech department” for focusing on the dynamically changing financial landscape in India.
  • As per RBI circular, the FinTech department was set up on January 4, 2022.
  • Decision to set up the department was taken in a bid to further focus on the area and innovation in FinTech sector in keeping pace with dynamically changing landscape.

What is the purpose of this department?

  • FinTech department was created for following purposes:
  • To give a thrust to fintech innovation
  • To look into regulations.
  • To promote innovation in the sector
  • To identify the challenges and opportunities associated with the sector as well as to address such challenges.
