  • The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of India and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol) have signed a landmark agreement – a Working Arrangement – to strengthen cooperation in combating transnational crime. This collaboration signifies the growing importance of international partnerships in tackling the complex challenges posed by today's sophisticated criminal networks.

  • Virtual Signing Ceremony: The agreement was signed electronically on March 21st by Europol's Executive Director, Catherine De Bolle, and CBI Director, Praveen Sood, highlighting the commitment from both sides despite geographical distance.
  • Enhanced Cooperation: The arrangement facilitates direct collaboration between CBI and Europol, leveraging their expertise and resources for a more effective global response to crime.
  • Addressing Urgent Need: This agreement acknowledges the critical need for expedited international cooperation due to the increasingly widespread nature of criminal activity.
  • Broad Scope: The agreement goes beyond just CBI and Europol, enabling collaboration between all law enforcement agencies in India and the 27 EU member states Europol represents. Additionally, it extends to third countries and organizations partnering with Europol.
  • Targeted Areas: The collaboration will focus on tackling a wide range of crimes, including organized crime, financial crimes, terrorism, cybercrime, human trafficking, and more.
