The Department of Agriculture has prepared proposals for the recruitment of 300 Agricultural Extension Officers (AEO). The agriculture department has undertaken the exercise as CM KCR order to rationalize the AEO clusters as the state's arable land has increased and new clusters have been set up where necessary.

As part of this, the proposals have been prepared on the need for new clusters and the recruitment of AEOs for them. Once the formation of clusters comes into effect, new AEO posts will also be made available. They will be recruited by the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC).
In 2018, the state government divided the agricultural lands into clusters and implemented various programs. A cluster has been established for about 5 thousand acres. Then during the rainy season it would extend to about a million acres. A total of 2,601 clusters were formed by combining small and large clusters.

Agriculture Extension Officers:
Each cluster has one AEO. AEOs are responsible for monitoring the agricultural land within that cluster, providing necessary advice and instructions to farmers, managing farmer forums, identifying Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima beneficiaries and providing them with the necessary support and assistance. However, due to the availability of Kaleshwaram and other irrigation projects and Rythubandhu, the area of cultivated land in the state has reached 1.46 crore acres, sources in the agriculture department say. With this, the cultivated land in most of the clusters has increased to more than five thousand acres. More than 300 clusters have been found to have 6,000 to 12,000 acres of cultivated land. Work load on AEOs related to these customers has increased. Monitoring has become a problem. In this context, it has been decided to rationalize the clusters with increased and less cultivated land.

Crop wise clusters
The government had also identified crop-wise clusters in the state last year. Determined which crop grows more in which clusters. Accordingly, the crops will be specially promoted in the identified clusters in the coming season. Necessary seeds, fertilizers and other infrastructure will be provided for this. After harvesting, purchase centers are set up according to the clusters. Marketing facilities will be provided. It is the government's intention that this will benefit the farmers a lot. The Department of Agriculture has decided 2,613 clusters related to major crops in the state. It has been decided to set up 1,081 clusters for cotton crop, 1,064 crop clusters for rice, 71 clusters for potatoes, 21 clusters for soybean and nine clusters for maize.
