Agnipath: 10% reservation for Agniveers in CAPFs and Assam Rifles

The first batch of Agniveers will get a relaxation of five years beyond the prescribed upper age limit.

The Centre on Saturday announced a 10 per cent reservation for Agniveers in the recruitment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Assam Rifles. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also decided to give three years of age relaxation in its 17.5-21 years eligibility criteria for recruitment of Agniveers in CAPFs and Assam Rifles.

HMOIndia Twitter handle announced that "The MHA also decides to give 3 years age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit to Agniveers for recruitment in CAPFs & Assam Rifles. Further, for the first batch of Agniveer, the age relaxation will be for 5 years beyond the prescribed upper age limit".

All About Agnipath Scheme

  • This scheme entails a recruitment process for individuals with ranks below that of officers
  • The scheme aim is to deploy fitter, younger troops on the front line
  • The employed youth will be called Agniveers
  • Agniveers will be on four-year contract
  • Men and women between the ages of 17.5 and 21 will be recruited for the armed forces under this scheme.
  • After four years, Agniveers will be able to apply voluntarily for the regular cadre.
  • Based on merit, organisation requirement, up to 25 percent shall be selected from that batch
  • The first year salary package is Rs 4.76 lakh, with an increase to Rs 6.92 lakh in the fourth year
  • There is also a Rs 48 lakh non-contributory insurance cover.
