Special Courses for Divyangjans

The central government has set up special education and training institutes in Cuttack, Kolkata and Chennai to provide necessary training for the rehabilitation and social change of the disabled. Many courses are offered to train the disabled.
National Institutes under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment offers many programmes in Degree and PG level. For admission to Degree programmes is through Common Entrance Test (CET) and PG programmes through Post Graduation Entrance Test (PGET) - 2020. Let us know about the courses and the institutes offering the special programmes for the divyangjans (Physically challenged).

Swami Vivekananda National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (Cuttack), National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (Kolkata), National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with mutliple disabilities (Chennai) were established by central government for the rehabilitation and social change of divyangjans. They offer four and a half year Bachelor of Physiotherapy / Occupational Therapy / Prosthetics and Orthotics courses at low costs. Those who complete these courses can serve in various colleges, institutions and NGOs. Notification for Common Entrance Test (CET) has been released for admission to Bachelor programmes for the year 2020. This year Swami Vivekananda National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (Cuttack) is conducting the CET.

Bachelor programmes
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT):

For divyangjans the organs do not cooperate properly. Especially, for those with neuro-muscular, musculo-skeletal and cardio-vascular and respiratory systems related problems. They need manual therapy, electro-therapy and physiotherapy. They are trained in physiotherapy as part of the course to serve the disabled. Students who have successfully completed the course can find jobs in hospitals, rehabilitation centers and physiotherapy clinics. And serve as faculty in the relevant field as well. You can make a career as a Physiotherapist. If you are interested in higher education ..after completing the Bachelor's Degree, you can join the Post Graduation level with specializations such as Orthopedics, Neurology, Pediatrics, Sports, Rehabilitation, Cardio Respiratory Physiotherapy. Research courses are also available after PG programmes.

Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) :
Occupational Therapy is essential to recover quickly after the medical treatment. Those who complete the course can find opportunities in hospitals, NGOs, pediatrics hospitals, psychiatric centers, educational institutions, sports centers and old age homes. Or you can set up your own training center.

Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics (BPO):
Some organs won't function by birth. Or may be lost in an accident. Such people can lead normal life with artificial limbs. The BPO course will help you make the necessary equipment for such a transaction. After successful completion of the course, you will find employment in rehabilitation centers, hospitals, trauma care centers, multinational companies, manufacturing and academic institutes. You can set up your own manufacturing company. You can get prosthetist / orthotist jobs in public and private sector organizations overseas.

Eligibility:
Candidates should have completed Intermediate with Bi.P.C. or equivalent course recognized by government accredited board. SC / ST candidates should get 40 per cent marks in the qualifying course, 45 per cent marks for Divyangjans and 50 per cent marks for others. Candidates must have read English in Intermediate. To join in the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Chennai , candidates should have at least 50 per cent marks in M.P.C . / Bi.P.C. (SC / ST /OBC at least 40 marks.

Selection process
Candidates should appear for Common Entrance Test (CET). The entrance examination will be conducted in objective type for 100 marks. This includes General Ability, General Knowledge- Ten Questions for ten marks; 30 questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics each. The test time is two hours. No negative marks. The examination is conducted in 27 centers nationwide.

PGET for PG courses
Notification for Post Graduate Entrance Test (PGET) - 2020 has been released for admission to Master of Physiotherapy (MPT), Master of Occupational Therapy (MVOT), Master in Prosthetics and Orthotics (MPVO) at PG level. Exam is for 100 marks and the duration is 90 minutes.

Courses - Eligibility:
Master of Physiotherapy (MPT): This includes Rehabilitation / Musculo-skeletal Conditions / Pediatrics / Neurology Specializations. Bachelor of Physiotherapy or B.Sc Physiotherapy is the eligibility.

Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT): This course includes Rehabilitation / Hand Rehabilitation / Developmental Disabilities / Neurology Specialties. Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT), or B. Sc Occupational Therapy is the eligibility.

Master in Prosthetics and Orthotics (MPO): There are no specializations related to this course. Candidates must have passed the Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics (BPO), or B. Sc Prosthetics and Orthotics course with 50% marks.

Testing centers in Telugu states: Secunderabad and Vijayawada.
