But in our country, the idea of getting a degree is morefor a student than having the necessary skills. While millions of engineering students are coming out every year, only thousands aregetting jobs. Industry groups are commenting that jobs cannot be given with just degree and not having any skills. Experts say that education is not just about graduating but also about becoming proficient.They say… that is the path to success.
No use with just a degree
There is no point if students just take the degree and go out. They have to upgrade internal capabilities and achieve necessary skills for the industry need. We have to work towards that from the first year.

From the first year itself
Thousands of students are joining in engineering colleges from rural areas. Students should make a serious effort to master English. Communication skills are very important to get job in reputed or MNCs. So it should start from the first year. Engineering education means having awareness on experiments in addition to the curriculum and focusing on sample questionnaires. Above all, you need to have punctuality.
In second year
The Common course lasts for six months in addition to the first year and the second year. Then teaching shifts towards the core subject. Active education goes on from here. Focus on workshops, technical symphonies, seminars, presentations, etc. Make the habit of preparing project reports and working with researchfaculty.
Crucial third year
This is where the students have to decide whether theywant to go to higher education or get a job. Internships that are flexible to the needs of the industry are very useful in assessing internal capacity. Internship will be of 30 to 180 days. Choose a good industry and adopt the characteristics of punctuality, mind management, etc. On the other hand practice for the GATE should start during this period. Startup projects need to be innovated. The third year should be used as a key for your career plan.
The final year
At this stage students should practice taking sample oral exams, preparing their resume correctly, and participating in group discussions. Read newspapers and magazines to get the required and minimum knowledge and awareness about current affairs.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading MNC company in JNTUK, conducted the interviews. The TCS-HR manager was shocked to learn that the students could not tell who the Tata company chairman was, when asked. This is just an example. So, be practical that general knowledge is as important as subject, to survive in a company, society, world.
