The golden rule to remember is that A is to B in the same way as C is to D

The ability to grasp the similarity or difference between pairs of words is, in a way, necessary for scientists, engineers and technologists, to achieve this ability one should possess the following:

 

  1. A wide range of vocabulary.
  2. A Knowledge of different shades of meanings.
  3. Acknowledge of parts of speech.
  4. Analytical ability.
  5. The ability to use the origin pair of words in a sentence,
    • to determine the relationship between the two words in the question pair, and
    • to identify a similar pair of words from among the answer pairs by using the two words of these pairs in place of the two words of the question pair.
The golden rule to remember is that A is to B in the same way as C is to D.
To familiarize oneself with analogy problems, constant practice is essential. One must be able to think methodically so as to perceive different shades of relationships.
