More than 20 thousand schools closed in 2020-21!

The latest report of the Central Education Department revealed that more than 20 thousand schools were closed in the last academic year 2020-21 across the country.

The Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) has reported that only 44.85% of schools in the country have access to computers and only 34% of schools have Internet access. Compared to the previous year, the number of teachers has decreased by 1.95%.

Highlights of the report

  • While there were 15.09 lakh schools in 2020-21, it has reduced to 14.89 lakh in 2021-22.
  • The number of teachers has reduced from 97 lakh in 2020-21 to 95 lakh in 2021-22.
  • Only 27% of schools have special toilets for disabled students.
  • The number of students increased from 25.38 crore in 2020-21 to 25.57 crore in 2021-22.
  • Enrollment of students in pre-primary schools has decreased by 11.5 lakh. Due to the effect of Corona, the number of children has decreased due to parents not wanting to enroll their children in schools.
