గందరగోళానికి గురిచేసే పదాలు

valet: Self parking చేసుకోవాల్సిన అవసరం లేకుండా కస్టమర్ల కార్లను park చేసి పెట్టే వాళ్లను valet (Vall-ett వాలెట్) అంటారు. They are called... Parking Valets. దీన్ని [వాలెట్] లాగా పలుకుతారు. దీన్ని Val-ay వాలే అని కూడా చాలామంది ఉచ్చరిస్తారు.

enquiry > < inquiry: ఈ రెండు పదాల మధ్య కొద్ది తేడానే ఉన్నట్లు ఉంటుంది. ఈ రెండు పదాల్నీ nounగా verbగా కూడా వాడవచ్చు. Enquire అంటే "ask'’ అని అర్ధం. You enquire when the train would be coming. Inquire అంటే పరిశోధించు "investigate'' అని అర్థం. కార్యాలయాల్లో ఎవరైనా ఏదైనా తప్పు చేస్తే, Inquiry Officerను నియమిస్తారు. కానీ American ఇంగ్లిష్‌లో ఈ తేడాను పాటించరు. వాళ్లు inquireని ఎక్కువ prefer చేస్తారు. కానీ మనం British Englishనే అనుసరిస్తాం కాబట్టి, పైన చెప్పినట్లు వాడటం శ్రేయస్కరం.

appraise > < apprise: These are two often confused pair of words. Appraise means to "evaluate''. (విలువగట్టు, అంచనావేయు) Gold is appraised before a loan is granted. Apprise means "to inform''.
 Eg. The CM apprised the governor of the situation

dispatch > < despatch : రెండు స్పెల్లింగులూ కరెక్ట్ ‘పంపు’ అని అర్థం. Eg. The letter is dispatched. You must be getting it in two days. 

wear > < ware: wear అంటే ధరించు
  Eg. You wear good clothes for parties. She is wearing a nice dress. Ware అంటే వస్తువులు అని అర్ధం. Warehouse అంటే సామానులు నిల్వ చేసే ప్రదేశం (గోడౌన్). Kitchenware అంటే వంటింట్లో వాడే సామాను. Woolenware అంటే చలి కాలంలో వేసుకొనే దుస్తులు వగైరా. 
 step brother > < half brother > < cousin (brother)
 భారతీయుల్లో ఈ relations చాలా తక్కువ. ఇంగ్లిష్‌లో ఆయా సందర్భాలను బట్టి ఈ పదాలను ఉపయోగించాలి.
 A half-brother is your brother with one common biological parent (your father or mother). A half-brother is related to you by blood through that one parent. తెలుగులో  సవతి తమ్ముడు లేదా సవతి సోదరి అంటారు. దీని అర్థం తల్లిదండ్రుల్లో ఒకరు రక్త సంబంధీకులై ఉంటారు. అంటే తల్లైనా, తండ్రైనా ఇద్దరికీ ఒక్కరే అయి ఉండాలి. మనం సాధారణంగా తండ్రి, ఇద్దరికీ ఒకరే ఉండటం చూస్తాం .
 Step brother is a son of one's step parent, by a marriage other than that with one's own father or mother. .... A stepbrother or sister తో రక్తసంబంధం ఉండదు.
 Step brother పదాన్ని మన సంస్కృతిలో వాడటం చాలా అరుదు. ఒక జంటకు ఇద్దరికీ అంతకు ముందే అయిన వివాహం ద్వారా కలిగిన సంతానం ఉన్నపుడు, ఆ పిల్లలు ఒక రికొకరికి step brothers అవుతారు. వేరే దేశాల వాళ్లు కొందరు ఇలాంటి పెళ్లిళ్లు చేసుకుంటారు.
 KM Munshi, a noted politician and writer, gave an excellent example of such a situation, "Your children (A) and my children (B) are quarrelling with our children (C).'' In this, A and B are step brothers to each other. C category are half brothers to both A and B.
 Cousin brother అనేది ఇంగ్లిష్‌లో వాడరు. Cousin అని మాత్రమే అంటారు. Cousin sister అని కూడా అనరు. కొన్ని dictionariesలో Indian English అని specialగా  ఇస్తున్నారు . తెలుగులో లేక హిందీలో సొంత అన్న/ అనే పదాలు వున్నాయి కాబట్టి, cousin అనే మాటను brother ముందు పెడతారు. వాళ్ల ఉద్దేశం ఇతను సొంత brother or sister కాదు అని. వరసకు brother or sister అని స్పష్టం చేయడానికి. Englishలో బావ, మరదలు లాంటి పదాలు లేవు. అన్నిటికీ cousin అనే చెప్తారు.
