Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has announced a significant tuition fee hike for the 2025-26 academic year, with fee increases ranging from 16% to 41% across various undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma programmes. A detailed analysis of the university’s latest prospectus compared to the previous year’s fee structure highlights this sharp rise in tuition costs.

  • Highest Increase in Persian Department:

The Department of Persian recorded the highest fee hike of 41.41%, with tuition fees increasing from ₹6,700 to ₹9,475 annually.

  • Significant Hike in Arabic Department:

The Department of Arabic saw a 37.15% increase, raising fees from ₹7,200 to ₹9,875 per year.

  • Foreign Language Programmes Affected:

Courses like BA (Hons) in Turkish and other foreign languages have also witnessed a 37.15% fee hike.

  • Social Sciences Programmes:

Programmes such as MA and BA (Hons) in Political Science, the four-year BA (Multidisciplinary), and BCom (Hons) now cost ₹9,875 per year, reflecting a 32.99% rise from the previous ₹7,425.

  • Science Courses Fee Increase:

Tuition fees for science courses like BSc (Multidisciplinary), Geography, Mathematics, and Physics have increased by 34.29%, rising from ₹7,800 to ₹10,475 annually.

  • BTech and MTech Programmes Impacted:

BTech Tuition: Increased by 19.04%, from ₹16,150 to ₹19,225.
MTech Tuition: Increased by 16.48%, now costing ₹21,375 per year.

  • Law Courses See a 19% Hike:

Fees for LLM (Regular) and BA LLB (Hons) have increased by 19%, from ₹15,000 to ₹17,850 per year.

Fee Reduction for SAARC, NRI, and Foreign Nationals
Interestingly, while tuition fees have increased for most domestic courses, JMI has reduced fees for:

Students from SAARC countries to attract more foreign applicants.
Foreign nationals and NRI wards enrolling in diploma courses under University Polytechnic.

New Courses and Expanded CUET Admissions for 2025-26
Alongside the fee hike, Jamia Millia Islamia has introduced 14 new courses and expanded the use of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores for admissions.

25 Programmes to Use CUET Scores:

  • 9 Undergraduate Courses
  • 5 Postgraduate Courses
  • 8 Diploma Courses
  • 3 Advanced Diploma Courses

In 2024, only 20 courses were offered through CUET, but this number has increased to 25 courses in 2025.
