Telangana Skills University for Skill Training: Six Courses To Start From 2024
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed concern over the rising unemployment in the country due to lack of professional skills. He highlighted the hardships faced by individuals migrating to Gulf countries for employment due to lack of skills. To address this, the government is establishing the 'Young India Skills University' inspired by Mahatma Gandhi.

The university aims to provide employment to millions of youth. It will offer 17 courses, starting with six courses in the first year, accommodating 2,000 students. The ‘Young India Skills University of Telangana’ bill was introduced by Minister Sridhar Babu in the Assembly on Thursday. Following discussions, including inputs from the Chief Minister and other members, the bill was unanimously approved by the Assembly.
57 Acres on PPP Model
“We are establishing the Skills University on 57 acres in Muccherla under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Classes will commence next year. To avoid wasting time, we are starting six courses this year at the Engineering Staff College in Gachibowli.
The courses include:
- School of Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences
- E-Commerce and Logistics
- School of Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance
- School of Construction and Interiors
- School of Retail Operations and Management
- Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics

Industry representatives will train students based on industry needs and provide employment opportunities. Leading national companies such as Dr. Reddy’s Labs, SBI, National Academy of Construction, Retail Association of India, and VFX Association have come forward to collaborate,” explained the Chief Minister.
Skill University: Annual Fee of Rs. 50,000
“We will provide training for a nominal fee of Rs. 50,000 per year. Fee reimbursement will be available for SC, ST, OBC, and minority students. Hostel facilities will be provided. In the future, colleges under the university will be established in districts. The university will offer certificates for courses ranging from 3 to 6 months, diplomas of two to three years, and degrees. Students can pursue PG and PhD later. We plan to appoint a prominent national business leader as the university’s chairman and distinguished individuals as vice-chancellors. We welcome suggestions on the Skills University from the leader of the main opposition, KCR, said” criticized Revanth.
District Expansion Suggested
BJP leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy suggested extending the university’s services to district centers. He noted that several states already have skill training activities. Congress member Yennam Srinivas Reddy stated that the establishment of the Skills University demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing unemployment. BJP MLA Palvai Harish suggested appointing the Governor as the Vice-Chancellor.

Filling the Skill Gap: Sridhar Babu
Minister of Legislative Affairs Sridhar Babu stated that the Skills University aims to bridge the skill gap between education and employment. He noted that the bill was drafted after studying the establishment of universities in various countries. He highlighted how countries like Germany, South Korea, China, and Singapore have integrated vocational education into their educational systems.
Legal Reservations: Deputy CM Bhatti
Responding to the discussion on the university bill, Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka assured that all legal reservations would be implemented. He stated that unlike previously established private universities, all legal provisions, including reservations, will be followed in this university.
Will SETWIN and ITIs be Closed? Owaisi
AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi raised concerns about the impact of the new Skills University on existing institutions like SETWIN, ITIs, and Youth Services. He questioned whether these institutions would face difficulties or be closed down due to the establishment of the Skills University.
Owaisi clarified that while they are not opposed to the Skills University, they are concerned about the future of the existing institutions. He also emphasized the need for minority representation on the university's selection committee.
In response, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy assured that ITIs and SETWIN will not be closed down.
