In light of this, the Labor and Employment Department is now focusing on filling the vacant positions in these centers. With no recruitments over the past decade, it is estimated that about 40% of the positions in ITIs are currently vacant.

Last week, CM Revanth Reddy, during a review meeting with the Labor and Employment Department, directed that these vacancies should be filled as soon as possible. Consequently, the department has begun identifying the vacancies across the ATCs, with reports expected to be submitted by the second week of next month.

2,033 Vacant positions

Across the 65 government-run ATCs in the state, 2,033 positions have been approved, the majority of which are faculty roles responsible for training. Out of approximately 1,500 instructor positions, 740 remain vacant. Officials are currently gathering data on the number of vacancies in each category for each ATC.

The state government also plans to introduce new trades in the ATCs, replacing outdated ones. As part of this initiative, they are defining the qualifications required for instructors to train students in these new trades. Proposals to fill the vacancies will be finalized soon.

Furthermore, many ATCs are operating without full-time principals, relying on temporary in-charges. CM Revanth Reddy has emphasized that every ATC must have a full-time principal. The Labor Department is currently deliberating whether to promote existing personnel to fill the principal positions or hire new candidates as part of a fresh recruitment drive. Additionally, there are discussions about establishing new ATCs in the state to further expand skill development opportunities.
