Armed Forces Medical College provides training to under-graduate and post-graduate medical students with assured career prospects in the defence services.The duration of MBBS course is four and a half years followed by one-year internship. The eligibility criteria for the course are:
  • The candidate should be a citizen of India/ subject of Nepal or Bhutan/ person of Indian origin migrated from a foreign country with the intention to permanently settle India
  • Must be unmarried
  • Should be medically fit
  • Must have attained the age of 17yrs on 31st Dec of the year of application, but must not have attained the age of 22 years on that date
Coming to academic eligibility criteria,
  • Candidate should have studied +2 with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as a regular student
  • Secured at least 60 per cent marks in aggregate in these Science subjects
  • At least 50 per cent marks in English and each of the Science subjects
  • Passed an examination in Mathematics of the 10th standard.
Admission is based on performance at entrance test. Students have compulsory liability to serve as Commissioned Officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services. The candidates' parents/ guardians have to sign a bond agreement at the time of admission.

Military colleges of armed forces offer military nursing courses. Females who are unmarried or divorced and widows without encumbrances can apply for the B.Sc. Nursing courses in these colleges. Those selected to the course have to sign a bond to serve in the Military Nursing Services (MNS) for specified period (four to five years). During training all candidates will be provided free ration, furnished accommodation, uniform allowance and a monthly stipend.

The age of the applicant should be between 17 and 24 years. The academic eligibility criterion is plus two or equivalent examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with at least 45 percent marks. The admission is based on performance at written examination and interview. The areas of assessment are general English, Biology and General intelligence.
