The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, imparts training in Company Secretaryship in distance mode. The Institute provides Course Material for all the subjects at the time of Registration. The student can also opt for oral teaching classes.

To become a company secretary, the student has to three stages to training after +2 (arts, science and commerce). They are the Foundation Programme, the Executive Programme and the Professional Programme. But one has to take up the training after graduation (any stream except fine arts), and can skip the first stage.

The course includes Practical Training for about fifteen months, which the student may opt to begin after passing the Executive Programme. Professional Programme can be pursued only after clearing the Executive Programme of CS Course.

After passing the Executive or Professional Programme, a Student has to undergo fifteen months Management Training in Companies sponsored by the Institute or under the guidance of a Company Secretary in Practice. After qualifying Professional Examination and on successful completion of training a candidate is admitted as an Associate Member of the ICSI and can use the letters ACS after his/her name.

Admission to the CS Course is open throughout the year. Examinations are held twice a year in June and December.
