College life: College is one place where you make friends for life. It determines your future ahead. You make mistakes, you learn. It is one of the most determining periods in your life.

Who has been the inspiration behind your success?
Honestly, there was no inspiration to cite. It’s just the ambition and goals that drove me to work hard and do what I am doing right now. Osmania University, despite being in the news every day, is a wonderful place to be in college. My schooling in Andrews was highly educational but it was education in China that made me more mature and it educated me about the world, the people around me, the opportunities which lay ahead for us. Inspiration leads you to a certain extent, but after that, it is your hard work and passion, which drives you.

Can you describe us in detail how you faced the campus interview right from the written test to facing the interview board?
First, we had a written test, which is quite a standard one. If you are prepared with the basic aptitude and English knowledge along with Logical Reasoning, you are in. You can start preparing a couple of months before interviews commence, but I would definitely recommend to take CAT coaching as it is one thing which helped me clear the written tests for companies. Some written tests are very tough and you need to work hard on your CAT skills if you want to clear it.

Followed by that, we had group discussion. GDs are very important. It’s where they judge
you on your language, your ability to put forth your thoughts, your team work, and your knowledge. Practice GDs in college. Learn what is happening around you. Make sure you look at everyone in the team when you talk and not only at the judges. Speak clearly and do not argue with your teammates. Be firm and flexible at the same time. Speaking skills have to be very good.

My interview had questions about my summer internship also a little technicality was included about the biomedical field. It was a good experience. A well structured discussion. The interview panel made me feel very comfortable and to open up. They ask about your family, to speak a few lines about yourself etc.

What do you think that fetched the job in the Campus placement?
It was my academics, which are pretty strong. My CAT coaching, speaking skills as well as communication skills also helped me a lot.

How many offers did you get and which was your choice?
We are allowed to have two placements in college according to the rules. I got into Headstrong and Deloitte. I chose Deloitte.

Which books and material did you refer for your preparation?
Basic CAT material or CAT books are more than sufficient.

When did you start preparing for the placement?
Around 1 month prior to the beginning of placement selections.

What suggestion would you like to give for job aspirants?
Don’t be nervous and brush up your basics in academics. Speak well and speak freely. Be nice and not monotonous in interviews. Be expressive and always have a pleasant smile on your face. Even if you are in pressure, stay calm and don’t lose focus. Prepare well to clear the written round as it is the threshold.

What parameters did you keep in mind while selecting a college or a branch?
I just wanted to do something new and refreshing, that ‘s all. And colleges and Universities were my only priority and Osmania was No.1

Branch is an important issue, which decides the career of the student. How did you decide upon the branch selection?
If you really want to pursue further education, get a PhD in your core subject then choose carefully and work hard to get into that. Don’t settle for less. On the other hand, if your aim is to just get a job, then you can be a little lenient in your choice. If you want to try something new and make a decision later, I say go for it. If you want to do your public examinations etc and just need a degree, choose something where you get to learn new and exciting stuff which is going to help you in your future endeavours.

What do you suggest to a student and why: A seat in a good college or a good branch in a normal college?
A seat in a good college, if you need a job. Because Campus Placements are the best in my college. For people opting for further studies, I would still say good college. If you get into your branch in a normal college, you have the potential to try again. Get the desired branch in a good college, would be my suggestion.

Can you suggest the Engineering branches, which are in demand with respect to the present job trend?
I think Biomedical is picking up a lot. CSE is evergreen and placements in our college or nothing less compared to IITs. A number of girls are also venturing into Mechanical; so I guess these.

What do you think is best for a fresh engineer - to pursue MBA or to opt for a job?
I think it completely depends upon you. If you want to work, work. If you want to pursue MBA, I would still say work for a couple of years and then go ahead with it.

How do the students know if a particular branch interests him/her or not?
Right after Intermediate no one does. However, during that huge gap of vacation you have time to do research. See what the trend around the world is. Talk to people; neighbours, friends who help you to make a decision.

What skills should students develop during their four years to have a bright career?
Communication skills, problem-solving methods and your basics of any subject should be strong. Because that is the foundation for everything.

Keeping in view of the physical strain, which Engineering branches are suitable for girls?
Gone are those days! I think girls can pick ANYTHING they want. As I said before, the number of people, opting for mechanical engineering is steadily increasing and that is the most strenuous branch!

How should an engineering student plan his four years of study for a successful career?
Academics first… Gaining Knowledge about not only your subject but others as well. Learn from your mistakes. Learn speaking. Shed your nervousness. Be confident. Be able to interact with all kinds of people. Do internships. And make friends and have the best time of your lives.

Your advice to the engineering aspirants...
Work hard in EAMCET, aim for the Universities and then the top ten colleges in the state. Don’t settle for less. If it is IITs, then you should have only one focus.
