Study in USA
Sakshi Education
The land of dreams and opportunities, the US offers high-quality educational options for students from around the globe. Be it for the quality of education or the career prospects after graduation, US has been world's most preferred country for higher education.
Why to study in the United States
US colleges and universities are attractive to international students for many reasons. Almost 600,000 international students are currently pursuing their higher education degrees in the US.
In Technology:
It is believed that world's finest higher education is available in the US, especially in the field of technology. US degrees are accepted across the world and are considered to be among the most prestigious.
Practical Experience: There are numerous research opportunities in every field that allow students to gain practical experience during their studies. In addition, due to funding from the US Government and public and private corporations, students who work as research assistants often receive a waiver of tuition fees and are provided with a stipend to help with their living expenses.
Course Curriculum: In addition to their major field of study and courses, students often have the option to take electives in other subject areas, based on their interests. In addition, the selection of course offerings at most colleges and universities is very large and diverse. Sometimes students may even be able to "cross-register" or take courses at other nearby universities as part of their degree program.
Grants... Loans: Most of the US universities financially support international students either in the form of providing teaching or research assistantships. These assistantships are based on academic merit, rather than financial need. Awarded students will receive stipends, and/or either partial or full tuition waivers. In some cases, a student's education could turn out to be completely free if the student exhibits exceptional skills in his or her field of study. Students also have the opportunity to receive grants, loans, and scholarships from various organizations
Part time Work: Students who are on F-1 student visas can work on-campus up to 20 hours a week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours a week in the summer or vacation periods. The students are usually paid an hourly rate, and their earnings help to cover their living expenses. Students are placed in jobs based on their financial need and personal skills and experience. For example, English major may be placed at the university library, while someone who has a lifeguard certification may be placed at the campus Aquatic Center.
Internships:
Students are allowed to work as interns in their respective academic fields outside of the campus during summer vacation. There are internship programs during the academic year as well. Internships are a valuable part of education as they help students gain practical experience while taking classes. Most universities also offer academic credit for internship experience.
Job offers:
Once students complete their degrees, they are authorized to work full-time for one year in a related field in order to gain practical experience. This program is called the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program. Many talented students are hired as a permanent employee after they complete their OPT period by securing sponsorship from their employers for an H-1 visa. The H-1B visa is a temporary work permit for foreign nationals to work in specialty occupations like Software, Engineering, Teaching, Accounting, or Marketing. Students may continue their work without leaving the U.S. after the status change approval.
Value:
The success of any student will be directly proportional to the amount of dedication and hard work him or her exercises. Undoubtedly, the US offers a very high quality of education. The variety of skills and cross-cultural environment can make the learning experience in US universities a rich and unique one. With such diverse academic and cultural backgrounds, international students are better prepared for working with absolute ease anywhere in the world.
GENERAL ELIGIBILITY:
For Undergraduate Programmes is 10 + 2
For Graduate Programmes:
All international students must be fluent in English language if they wish to study in USA. TOEFL score of 90 and above for Postgraduate and 80 above for Undergraduate studies or IELTS score of 6 and above for Undergraduates and 6.5 and above for Postgraduates studies are generally required. There are more than 1500 institutions in USA which recognize the IELTS exams including several top ranked institutions.
Graduate Admission Tests:
A good number of graduate schools require satisfactory scores on at least one academic admissions test, either a general aptitude test such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test or a demonstration of proficiency in your field (GRE Subject Test), or sometimes both.
Admission Procedure:
Student Visa:
In order to apply for a visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate, you must first have a SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System)-generated document (either an I-20 or DS-2019) issued by a U.S. college or university or Department of State-designated sponsor organization. You will be required to submit this form when you apply for a visa. The U.S. academic institution or program sponsor will provide you with the appropriate SEVIS-generated form only when you have been academically admitted to the institution or accepted as a participant in an exchange program. The institution or program sponsor will also send you additional information about applying for the appropriate visa, as well as other guidance about beginning your academic program in the United States. Once you have all the required documentation, you may apply for the visa, even if you do not intend to begin your program of study for several months. It is best to apply early for the visa to make sure that there is sufficient time for visa processing
What is Visa?
A person from another country that wishes to enter the United States (U.S.) must first obtain a travel document called a visa. There are many types of visas divided into two groups: Nonimmigrant and immigrant visas. A Nonimmigrant Visa basically is a short term visa for a temporary stay, while an Immigrant Visa facilitates permanent stay in U.S. A nonimmigrant visa is most frequently a tourist, business, student, or specialty worker visa that will permit the applicant to stay for a particular period of time in the United States to accomplish a specific purpose.
US Non-Immigrant visa application process:
Visa Fees:
Prior to confirming a visa interview appointment online, you need to pay the following fees and obtain a Visa Fee Receipt from HDFC Bank. When going to HDFC Bank, please carry with you a photocopy of the 1st page of the passport.
The fees payable at HDFC Bank per passport are: Visa Application Fee (MRV Fee): US $131 payable in INR equivalent at consular exchange rate. Visa Application Fee at current exchange rate (Rs. 48/-) is Rs. 6,288/-.
Service Charge: Rs.322/- which includes VFS' service charge Rs 310/- & Bank service charge Rs12/- (inclusive of Service Tax @ 12% and Education Cess Tax @0.36%)
Evidence of financial resources: proof of liquid assets sufficient to pay for the entire first year of education and living expenses as well as proof of readily available funds to cover the remaining year(s) of studies. If you are being funded by an organization (Indian or American), a letter from the organization explaining what funding will be provided. Original degree certificates along with mark sheets. Original Bachelor degree transcripts or high school diploma along with mark sheets from previous institutions attended.
Relevant test score reports, e.g. TOEFL and SAT, GRE, GMAT or LSAT.
NEW FEE STRUCTURE for Non-Immigrant Visas to USA
As of June 4, 2010, all U.S. Consular Sections worldwide will introduce a two-tiered fee structure for non-immigrant visas. This structured system coincides with a small, global application fee increase designed to balance the costs of recent enhancements to the visa application process.
All applications for business or tourism (B-1/B-2), crew member (C-1/D), student (F or M), or exchange (J) categories will now cost $140 and a white receipt will be issued. Applications for petition-based work visa categories (H, L, O, P, Q, and R) will now cost $150 and a green receipt will be issued. These two receipts will still be purchased at approved HDFC Bank branches. Applications for treaty trader (E) visas will now cost $390 that will continue to be paid at the Consulate General.
Applicants who purchased their receipts before June 4 will pay the balance between the old and new fees at the time of the interview. The previous application fee was $131 for all visas.
The Department of State adopted the tiered system because petition-based applications require significantly more processing than other visa applications. The rate increase is for improvements in the manner and speed with which visa applications are processed, and in particular for fraud-detection efforts. The total fee covers the cost of accepting, adjudicating, and issuing nonimmigrant visa applications.
In India alone, the U.S. government has increased consulate staffing by 40% over the last four years, and has invested over $100 million updating and expanding consular facilities. This includes a new Consulate General opened in Hyderabad, renovations to New Delhi consular facilities and a new Consulate General building in Mumbai. Applicants can read more about these and other changes at hyderabad.usconsulate.gov
