This makes India the second largest female learner on their platform. Coursera said their study revealed that more women are interested in learning online domestically. The share of women in the total number of new learners increased from 37 per cent in 2019 to 44 per cent in 2021.
Job placements
In the wake of the corona virus epidemic, the gap between men and women in employment has grown significantly, but it has narrowed in online learning. Coursera CEO Jeff Majioncalda said women are flocking online to learn new skills to get back into jobs.
In 2016, the share of women in the total number of learners was 24 per cent. Now, it has increased to 38 per cent, the report said. Internationally, the average age of female learners is 31, compared to 27 in India. Most of them are opting for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) courses and entry level professional certificates. The Coursera platform has 8.7 crore users worldwide, compared to 1.25 crore in India.
