Vertex India plans to hire 4000 people in next 6 months

Sharad Sharma is the director and chief of HR at Vertex India and leads the development of HR strategy for the India business.

Recently, in partnership with the National Thalassemia Welfare Society, we organised blood donation camps, health awareness camps in our office. We also participate and hire from charitable trusts that support youth from below the poverty line.

How many employees does your company have?
At present, we have over 5000 employees.

Are you hiring?
We plan to hire another 4000 people in the next six months.

What’s the average age of your workforce?
In the mid 20’s.

Which functions have openings?
Predominantly, these opportunities are in the customer services area (front office and back office). We also look to hire talent in the areas of IT and applications, HR, finance and business development.

What’s your ideal employee like?
Our employees demonstrate the virtues of being vibrant, energetic, hungry to excel, and, passionate towards providing exceptional customer experience.

What’s the highest academic qualification among your employees?
Postgraduates/MBAs are the highest academic qualifications amongst our employees.

How do you head-hunt?
Our major hiring contributor is the employee referral programme, contributing nearly half of our overall sourcing. We also recruit from colleges and institutes, partner with recruitment agencies and also access job portals.

How many employees with disabilities do you have? Is your office disabled- friendly?
We are an equal opportunity employer, with about 7% of our employees with disabilities. We extend all the support to our employees with disability to make the workplace comfortable for them.

What’s the attrition rate in your company?
Our attrition on a monthly basis is maintained within single digits.

What’s the average number of years employees work in your company?
About 12-15 months on the domestic business and five years on the international business. We have significantly lower attrition rates compared to the domestic BPO arena.

What’s the gender-wise break-up of your staff?
Our gender-wise break up comprises of 65% (male) and 35% (female).

Do you have second or third generation employees?
We have approximately 10 employees who form part of the second or third generation population.

Do you have any unique retention strategy?
Our primary focus is to generate career opportunities internally for our people. We have designed programmes that help associates take on supervisory roles or become subject matter experts.

We have numerous policies that work in favour of our employees:

About Sharad Sharma:
Sharad Sharma brings with him around 17 years of HR experience. He has been involved in talent acquisition and development, employee engagement, business acquisitions (integration) and other initiatives at the business and corporate levels.

Sharma has held senior management portfolios in companies including Bharti British Telecom, eFunds Corporation and Fidelity Investments. In the BPO space, he has played a pivotal role in global compensation and benefits, HR shared services and change management, acquisitions and mergers and leadership hiring functions.

Prior to joining Vertex, Sharma was with Max New York Life Insurance Company Limited. He holds a PG diploma in industrial relations and personnel management from Rajendra Prasad Institute of Management.
