Robotics Engineering: An Exciting Career
Sakshi Education
A childhood dream of playing with the robot can become a lifelong excitement by opting Robotics as a career. Enthusiastic engineer after graduating from the college can pursue robotics to reach the places that humans cannot, like the depths of the ocean or faraway planets. As the applications of robotics have been increasing by the day, demand for Robotics Engineers is also on the raise. Robotic engineer increases manufacturing capacity by creating specialized robots for each automatable task, could invent the next generation of robotic toys, animatronics equipment and special effects for amusement parks and the entertainment industry.
An interdisciplinary field
Robotics is a very young field. It is quite interdisciplinary in nature as developing and building robotic systems require to combine electrical and mechanical body components with computer brains. Accordingly, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science are core disciplines involved in robotics.
Career opportunities in Robotics field:
Robotics field offers opportunities in the area of design, industrial robotics and applied embedded systems. A design professional will find a place in the design section of a robot or embedded design firm and work on robotic assemblies like actuators, sensors, interface circuitries, develop graphical user interfaces, and control mechanisms for the robots.
In the manufacturing sector, there are opportunities in the areas of maintenance and operation. The roles involve programming , troubleshooting and maintenance of the robots, hydraulics and pneumatics system, control systems etc.
Salary for freshers:
A fresher in the sector could earn a starting salary in the range of Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000 per month and with 4-5 years of experience; the salary could rise to Rs 1, 00,000.
Institutes offering Robotics course:
IIT Delhi, Kanpur, Powai, Kharagpur, Madras, Roorkee, Guwahati: M.Tech. Machine Design/Production and Electrical Control, Automation or similar specialization with robotics as elective.
