Centre approves ₹10,683 crore PLI scheme for Textile Sector
- Central government has approved the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme of worth Rs 10,683 crore for the textiles sector on September 8, 2021.
- This PLI scheme was approved in order to boost domestic manufacturing and exports.
- Scheme will help in creating direct additional employment of more than 7.5 lakh people and several supporting activities.
- As a part of incentives approved for textiles sector, the payout will be spread over a period of five years.
- PLI scheme was approved for textiles, MMF (man-made fibre) fabrics, MMF apparel and 10 segments or products of technical textiles.
CCS clears procurement of 56 transport aircraft
- The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has cleared the procurement of 56 transport aircraft from Airbus on September 8, 2021.
- This decision would provide a major fillip to the transport fleet of Indian Air Force.
- This deal to buy the C-295MW transport aircraft will cost upwards of Rs 20,000 crore.
- First 16 of these aircraft will be delivered from Spain in flyaway condition, within 48 months of the signing of contract.
- Remaining 40 aircrafts will be manufactured in India by a consortium headed by the Tata Group in over 10 years.
- Ministry will buy the transport aircraft from Airbus Defence and Space S.A., Spain.
MSP increased for all Rabi crops for 2022-23
- Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved an increase in Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all the mandated Rabi crops on September 8, 2021.
- MSP was increased for the Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2022-23 with the aim of realigning MSPs in favour of pulses, oilseeds, and coarse cereals. The Differential remuneration aims to encourage crop diversification.
- This move will encourage farmers to shift to larger area under these crops and adopt best technologies & farm practices in order to correct the demand-supply imbalance.
- With this step, government seeks to ensure remunerative prices for the growers for farmer’s produce.
Govt plans to further amend Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act to bring about tangible reforms in mining sector
- Government is is contemplating further amendment to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act to bring about tangible reforms in the mining sector of the country.
- Handing over 100 G4 mineral blocks reports of Geological Survey of India to different States, Union Minister for Coal and Mines, Pralhad Joshi urged the mining sector to increase the contribution of the sector to the country’s GDP to 2.5 per cent.
- The Ministry is in the process of finalizing the accreditation process for private exploration entities.
Centre signs ceasefire agreement with National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K) Niki Group for one year
- In a significant boost to the Naga peace process, Centre has entered into a ceasefire agreement with National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K) Niki Group for a period of one year. More than 200 cadres of this group along with 83 weapons joined the peace process.
- The Ceasefire Agreement and Agreed Ceasefire Ground Rules were signed yesterday. The Central government has already signed a Framework Agreement with NSCN (IM) and Ceasefire Agreements with other Naga groups namely NSCN (NK), NSCN (R) and NSCN (K)-Khango.
- In August 2019, Centre had signed an Agreement with NLFT (SD) by which 88 cadres along with 44 weapons joined the mainstream of society in Tripura.
- In January last year, with the signing of the Bodo Agreement more than 2,250 cadres of insurgent groups including all factions of NDFB along with 423 weapons and huge quantities of ammunition surrendered in Assam and joined the mainstream.
- In February this year, 1040 leaders and cadres of various underground Karbi groups of Assam surrendered along with 338 weapons which was followed by the signing of KarbiAnglong Agreement last week.

Cabinet approves Russia-India pact for cooperation in geosciences
- Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister NarendraModi, approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Russian on cooperation in the field of Geosciences.
- MoU was signed with the objective of extending mutual cooperation for technological collaboration for exploration of:
- Deep-seated & concealed mineral deposit
- Analysis & interpretation of aero-geophysical data
- PGE & REE Exploration & Research
- Joint development of Indian Geoscience Data repository with Russian Information Technology
- Exchange of technology & knowledge with respect to drilling, sampling and laboratory analysis to achieve data accuracy and cost optimization
- Training and capacity building of scientific personnel.
India calls for ‘human-centric approach in peacebuilding’ at UNSC
- India will continue to be a force multiplier for peacebuilding with an emphasis on the human-centric approach. The country’s fundamental approach to peacebuilding efforts is to respect national ownership and to be guided by host States’ development priorities.
- This was stated by Minister of State for External Affairs, MeenakashiLekhi while speaking at the UN Security Council Open Debate on UN Peacekeeping Operations-Transitions.
- New Delhi is convinced that human-centric, gender sensitive and technologically primed solutions and the robust functioning of democratic institutions of governance that give all stakeholders a say in creating a better future, is the biggest guarantee for the success of peacebuilding and for sustaining peace.
India, ADB sign 300 mn dollar loan to expand rural connectivity in Maharashtra
- Indian government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a 300 million dollar loan as additional financing to scale up improvement of rural connectivity to help boost rural economy in Maharashtra. The additional financing for the ongoing Maharashtra Rural Connectivity Improvement Project will help improve an additional 1,100 rural roads and 230 bridges for a total length of 2,900 kilometers in 34 districts.
- The ongoing project with 200 million dollar financing, approved in August 2019, is already improving and maintaining the condition and safety of 2,100 kilometers of rural roads. The signatories to the loan agreement were Additional Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Rajat Kumar Mishra and Country Director of ADB’s India Resident Mission, Takeo Konishi.
Mexico Supreme Court Decriminalises Abortion
- Supreme Court of Mexico has decriminalised abortion and has ruled that criminal penalties on terminating pregnancies are unconstitutional, in the state of Coahuila.
- This ruling was meant for northern state of Coahuila. It now prevents women from being prosecuted for abortion.
- Currently, abortion is severely restricted in four of the states in Mexico. It is also legal in cases of rape or where mother’s life is in danger.
- Thus, this decision could pave way to decriminalise abortion across Mexico.
- Under Mexican law, this ruling will now apply to all the other states in the country.
- With this ruling, women who were jailed for having abortions will now be released, with immediate effect.

IOC suspends North Korea until end of 2022 after it failed to send a team to Tokyo Games
- The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended North Korea until the end of 2022 after it failed to send a team to the Tokyo Games. The suspension means the country will miss out on the Beijing Winter Games.
- North Korea did not send a delegation to the Tokyo Games, saying it wanted to protect its athletes from Covid-19. IOC President Thomas Bach said the North Korean Olympic Committee would not receive financial aid during the suspension. Bach added that the IOC reserves the right to make decisions on any individual North Korean athletes who qualify for Beijing 2022 and to reconsider the duration of the country’s suspension.
- At Rio Olympics 2016, North Korea had won two Golds, three Silvers and two Bronzes.
