Department Of Atomic Energy Inaugurates ‘One DAE One Subscription’

  • The inaugural ceremony of ‘One DAE One Subscription’ (ODOS) took place on July 29, at Tata Memorial Hospital, in Mumbai. ODOS is a unique idea enabling Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) & all its units/subunits (about 60) together under one umbrella for read and publish access to national and international research papers as well as scientific journals.
  • The agreement will enable DAE to publish 281 articles in Springer Hybrid journals as open access without Article Processing Charges (APC). The ODOS Transformative Agreements (TA) signed with M/s. Wiley India Private Limited and with M/s. Springer Nature Group is a significant milestone for the DAE scientific community and enable sustainable growth of science and technology. This will boost scientific morale, foster innovation, promote research and will enhance academic publications.

Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro Becomes President For Third Time.

  • Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) announced on July 29, that Nicolas Maduro has won the presidential election once again and will govern the country from 2025 to 2031. Notably, it will be Nicolas Maduro’s third time as Venezuela’s President.
  • He was appointed to a number of positions under President Hugo Chávez, serving as President of the National Assembly from 2005 to 2006, as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2013 and as the vice president from 2012 to 2013 under Chávez. After Chávez’s death was announced on 5 March 2013, Maduro assumed the presidency.

RBI’s 5th Cohort Regulatory Sandbox.

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has selected five entities for the test phase of its theme-neutral fifth cohort of the regulatory sandbox, following the receipt of 22 applications. Announced in October of the previous year, this initiative allows firms to test new financial innovations in a controlled environment.

  • The sandbox involves several stages including preliminary screening, application assessment, test design formulation, and evaluation. It provides a controlled environment for live testing of financial products or services, allowing for regulatory relaxations to facilitate testing. This approach helps regulators, financial service providers, and customers assess the benefits and challenges of new innovations while managing associated risks.

Manu Bhaker And Sarabjot Singh Win Bronze Medal for India in Mixed 10m Air Pistol Team Event

  • Indian shooters Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh delivered a stellar performance to secure bronze medal, raising India's medal count to two at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The duo triumphed over the Republic of Korea with a score of 16-10 following 13 shots in the final round of mixed 10m Air Pistol team event.
  • Their outstanding display in the final round capped off a remarkable campaign adding another proud achievement to their names and to India's medal tally. This also marks Manu's second bronze medal at Paris Olympics 2024.
  • Sarabjot Singh has been a Khelo India athlete since 2019 and has participated in 4 Khelo India Games as well as is a Target Olympic Podium Scheme athlete. Manu Bhaker has also been a former competitor of the Khelo India Games and is a Target Olympic Podium Scheme Athlete.
  • In the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Qualification Round, Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh showed their precision and skill, securing a combined score of 580. This impressive performance placed them among the top contenders, earning them a spot in the bronze medal shoot-off.

  • The Central Water Commission (CWC) has been honored with the GEEF Global WaterTech Award in the category ‘Water Department of the Year’ at the Global Water Tech Summit – 2024, held by the Global Energy and Environment Foundation (GEEF) in New Delhi.
  • The Global WaterTech Award celebrates significant achievements in the water sector, including advancements in innovation, technology, conservation, and sustainable development. The GEEF acknowledged CWC’s crucial role in:
  1. Hydro-Meteorological Data Collection
  2. Flood Forecasting
  3. Reservoir Storage Monitoring
