Artificial Intelligence…. The future of mankind!

The development of full of artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race-Stephen Hawking
Artificial intelligence (AI)is the ability of a digital computer or computer-controlled robot to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings.

Research in AI has focused chiefly on the following components of intelligence: learning, reasoning, problem solving, perception, and using language.

Rail engine has given an unforeseen speed to the world. And penicillin has changed the dynamics of the field of medicine drastically. Then, the advent of computer has made a telling impact, on mankind altogether. Now, another revolutionary game changer of even bigger magnitude is making its way into the human life in a never-seen-before kind of fanatic pace;that is Artificial intelligence (AI).With a brain that thinks, learns, logics just as a human being does, the AI is giving a new momentum to machinery and institutions alike. Now experts say most of the new career opportunities are going to be for those who take get mastery over this AI. In this context, let us take a good look at what this AI is about, the kind of impact it is going to make on job opportunities and so on…

The world is changing with a rapid pace, thanks to the ever new innovative technological changes and advancements, which in effect is throwing a great challenge to the mankind. Sensing the abundant opportunities, this phenomena is throwing open, most of the students are falling in line and trying to catch up with the new AI technologies for a better and brighter future. In this context, it can undoubtedly be said that the most impactful technological invention of this century is definitely going to be the AI. Many surveys say the number of inventions in India is going to increase by two times by 2021. India has already been taking firm steps in terms of strategies and plans that would help in the manifold growth of the AI.

What is AI?
Computer needs a language for it to work. It doesn’t work unless programmes are executed. It is a machine that does not do anything by thinking on its own and only executes the pre-directed work. But the Artificial Intelligence (AI) is totally different. Machines can take their own decisions according to the situation with the help of the AI. The humanoid robot- Sofia, designed by Hong Kong’s Hanson Robotic Company in 2016, is an example of this. This robot is a computer algorithm that learns by observing the environment around, just as a human being does. When a particular task is performed repeatedly with the computer that has an AI fitted, it thinks over on its own as to how that task can be bettered, and even corrects if there be any mistakes in the course of performing the said task. The mobiles that we use now already have a bit of the AI fitted into them. It suggests possible words when something is even being typed in. Likewise, it separates spam and promotional mails as well. In a sense, the computer thinks the way we would want it to, and makes the task easier for us.

These are all AI
Alexa voice speaker is a well-known tool which answers the queries of the users. The technology used in it is none other than the AI. Likewise, the AI software ‘AlfaGo’ developed by Google’s DeepMind is considered the toughest game in the world. And China’s ‘Go’ has defeated even the Grandmasters. It could do so by understanding the whole old data of the game that was installed into it, playing the game over and over again, and correcting improving itself. IBM has also designed an AI called Watson. Facebook also designed computers named Bob and Elice, which work based on the AI, but later on done away with them as they started conversing in a language that is understood only between the two of them.

The way forward
There is a little doubt the world will revolve around the AI in the near future. The doctors have already used the AI to diagnose melanoma. Many recruiters also have been of the late depending on it to zero in on their human resources. Australia’s biggest energy firm Woodside has also used IBM’s ‘Watson’. It claimed this move enabled results in their research in less than one fourth of the time compared with that done by its employees. Many firms around the world have improved their efficiency by using IBM’s AI technology. This technology enables improved marketing efficiency and better results. It even tracks the moods and purchasing patterns of the customers beforehand for the firms. Thus, they stand a good chance of improved performance.

Caution needed
It seems the AI will be put into use in many fields in a massive scale. It re-emphasizes the need of continuous improvisation of AI skills the experts in the said fields possess. Especially those who want to be or to come into corporate companies, they should upgrade their AI knowledge to get through the interviews and get recruited.

Types
AI works by combining large amounts of data with fast, iterative processing and intelligent algorithms, allowing the software to learn automatically from patterns or features in the data. AI is a broad field of study that includes many theories, methods and technologies, as well as the following major subfields:
Machine learning, A neural network, Deep learning, Cognitive computing, Computer vision, Natural language processing.

Opportunities
Artificial intelligence is not here to replace us. It augments our abilities and makes us better at what we do. Because AI algorithms learn differently than humans, they look at things differently. They can see relationships and patterns that escape us. This human, AI partnership offers many opportunities. It can:
  • Bring analytics to industries and domains where it’s currently underutilized.
  • Improve the performance of existing analytic technologies, like computer vision and time series analysis.
  • Break down economic barriers, including language and translation barriers.
  • Augment existing abilities and make us better at what we do.
  • Give us better vision, better understanding, better memory and much more.

The goal of AI is to provide software that can reason on input and explain on output. AI will provide human-like interactions with software and offer decision support for specific tasks, but it’s not a replacement for humans – and won’t be anytime soon.
