Explore opportunities in space with space science courses

Space science, the word is widely heard around the world in recent times. Now-a-days, scientists are focusing on reusable rockets and habitats in space.
Interest and enthusiasm are added qualities
Interest in a career in the aerospace sector is paramount. In some cases it may take a long time to get desired work. Preparation accordingly is also essential. In the same way there must be careful observation, comparability, and features that can predict future situations are also important. Then they can continue in this field for a long time. There is no doubt that with academic teaching, one can get an understanding of the respective subjects. But one must also be mentally prepared to perform the complex tasks in this field.

- Prof. K. Joseph, Dean, IIST

ISRO-Indian Space Research Organization, the pride of India in recent victories in space. Space research is ongoing here. As a result, India is making solid strides in space exploration. In the field of space, from astronauts to research scientists, technicians, youth are getting many job opportunities. So, let us know about the details of leading institutes providing aerospace courses, eligibility, job profiles, career, salaries, etc.

Qualifications and Courses
India's amazing achievements in space exploration, satellite launches are some among what we have been hearing in recent times. The experiments, construction of satellites, designing carriers, sending astronauts into space, etc are the results of the dedication, skill, industry of many talented people. If you want to acquire such skills and talents, you should be trained. Many institutes offer related courses. You can have a glorious career in the field of space with those courses.

B.Tech to PhD
Many institutes offer courses from Bachelor's level to PhD (Research) in space science. Of these, the courses offered by Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), established by the Department of Space, Government of India are well known. The institute offers B. Tech Aerospace Engineering, B. Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics) courses at Bachelor level. It also offers a five-year dual degree (B. Tech + Master of Science / Master of Technology) course. It provides knowledge and expertise in space science. ISRO also offers scholarships to Scientists / Engineers-SC (Space Center) in ISRO.

Apart from IIST, Delhi University (Astrophysics Course), IIT-Delhi, IIT-BHUs, IISC-Bangalore, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing-Dehradun also offer courses in Space Science at Bachelor level.

Eligibility for B. Tech courses
To join B. Tech courses in institutes like IIST, IIT-Delhi, IIT-BHU, candidates must have passed Intermediate with MPC Group, in addition to the rank in JEE-Advanced.

Specializations in PG
Various specializations are available at the PG level r especially in aerospace engineering, avionics and instrumentation engineering, spacecraft engineering, and telecommunications engineering. Many leading universities also offer M.Sc Astronomy specialization. In order to join these PG specializations one has to pass in the relevant branch in B. Tech and rank obtained in GATE.

Research- Opportunities
Research (PhD) in space science. There are many opportunities. Research activities in the field of space have gained momentum around the world over the past few years. As a result the opportunities for research candidates are improving. Candidates can have careers in IISc – Bangalore, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Indian Institute of Space Technology, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Research. Research opportunities in astrophysics, avionics, cosmology and astronomy are also available at leading institutes such as IIT-Delhi and University of Delhi. Admission to these requires a CSIR-UGC NET or JEST (Joint Entrance Screening Test) score. They are also selected on the basis of talent in personal interview.

Job profiles
There are plenty of opportunities for UG, PG, PhD graduates in space science. Candidates get packages based on the course and skills they have. They can join as Astronaut, Space Engineers, Space Scientists, Technologists, Materialist, Climatologist, Space - Craft Designers.

Astronaut
There is no doubt that when we think of space technology or space science we think of astronauts. In order to get the opportunity as an astronaut Bachelor's degree with math, physics skills as well as physical fitness are required. Candidates selected as astronauts are given rigorous training. This training is to survive in adverse weather conditions in space.

Space Engineers
Another important profile in space science is space engineer. They not only design space-crafts, space vehicles, space stations, but also constantly monitor the weather conditions so as the space-crafts do not face any problems. To flourish as a Space Engineer, you must have passed M. Tech or PhD in Aerospace / Aeronautical Engineering, Avionics and Instrumentation Engineering, Materials Engineering, Space Craft Engineering. They are getting attractive salaries. They can receive a salary of at least Rs. 1 lakh per month.

Space Scientist
Another important side in space science is Space Scientist. They are required to work in laboratories run by aerospace companies such as ISRO and SHAR. They do research in various fields related to space science. They have to solve the problems encountered during the experiments, designing of the spacecraft etc.

Technologist
Technologists play a key role in the aerospace industry. They have to work as assistants to space engineers and space scientists. They can get jobs lke Communications Technicians, CAD Operators, Draftsmen, Electricians, Laser Technicians, Quality Assurance Specialists, Radar Technicians, Robotics Technicians, Satellite Technicians. With BSc, B. Tech qualification they are earning Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 50,000 a month.

Meteorologist
Mateorologists can work in space laboratories and research institutes. They are required to monitor the Earth's climate, assess future weather conditions, and prepare reports. They also get a initial salary of Rs. 50,000 per month depending on the talent.

Climatologist
Climatologists are important field astronomy. Their duties are almost the same as that of a materialist. They are also required to assess the weather conditions in a particular area, analyze and codify existing experimental reports.

Space Craft Designers
Another key position in the field of space technology / space science is space craft designers. Their main task is to design the spacecraft according to the targets of the satellites to be launched and the number of satellites. Currently, spacecraft designers are also receiving attractive salaries.

With physics and math skills
Physics and Mathematics skills are a must in space science for any level job. This is due to the fact that all the functions to be performed in this section are based on Physics and Maths Basics. With this, the institutes offering these courses offer admission only to those who have studied MPC, B.Sc at Bachelor level, M.Sc and M. Tech courses at PG level. Experts say that space science is a wonderful platform for students who have completed MPC and want an innovative career.
