AP BIE to Introduce New Syllabus from April 1, 2025: Major Changes Ahead

The Andhra Pradesh government is set to introduce a new syllabus based on NCERT and CBSE guidelines from the 2025–26 academic year. Starting April 1, 2025, junior colleges will begin implementing this updated curriculum to align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The initiative aims to enhance students’ academic standards and better prepare them for national-level competitive exams like JEE and NEET. This comprehensive reform will bring significant changes to the academic calendar, admissions process, and exam preparation across government junior colleges in the state.

The Andhra Pradesh state government is set to implement significant changes in intermediate education from the 2025–26 academic year. Junior Inter colleges will adopt the NCERT syllabus and CBSE framework for their curriculum. The new academic session will commence from April 1, starting with second-year intermediate classes. Admissions for first-year students will begin on April 5. Summer holidays are scheduled from April 23 to June 1.

Alignment with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020

In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, AP has already introduced the CBSE curriculum for school education. From the current academic year (2024–25), 10th-grade students are being taught following this new system. Starting from 2025–26, students progressing to intermediate education will follow the NCERT syllabus and CBSE methods.

Phased Implementation

Following recommendations from committees that visited 12 states, AP will implement the new syllabus in phases:

  • 2025–26: New syllabus for the first year of intermediate
  • 2026–27: New syllabus for the second year
  • Introduction of a new MBiPC (Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Chemistry) course in the upcoming academic year.

Changes in Academic Calendar (CBSE Model)

The academic year will now begin from April 1 instead of June, following the CBSE pattern. Key changes include:

  • Completion of at least 15% of the syllabus within the first 23 days
  • Extended academic calendar with an increase in working days by a month
  • Summer break from April 23 to June 1.
  • Admissions for first-year students will begin on April 5 after the 10th-grade exams conclude.

Special Coaching for Competitive Exams

To help science students excel in national-level exams like JEE and NEET:

  • Government junior colleges will offer special training sessions conducted by junior lecturers
  • Expert-led classes and specialized study materials will be provided
  • Regular academic classes from 9 AM to 3 PM
  • Competitive exam coaching from 3 PM to 5 PM
